    If you defeat the enemy banner, and on that same turn the enemy destroys your banner, you lose, even if you struck first. This applies to counter effects such as enemy birds under Cannoneer’s Counter or the Retaliate emblem.

    It has been this way since the beginning. Fair? Probably not, but it does state in the hints on loading that your Banner must be up at the end of a battle for a win to count.
