Stop ?!

  • Hi all,

I think sincerely more and more of stopping playing the games of the license Rovio.
It would mean abandoning hundreds of hours of game and also money invests, but I have more and more the feeling to choke.

If I pay for a game, that is to buy it or in purchase ingame, I estimate I can play it when I wish it. Except that it is not any more the case, Rovio does not stop torpedoing us with these events of all kinds, forcing us to play when they decide on it. The feelings of pleasure and freedom do not exist any more.
Especially as Rovio considers totally exempted from supplying us with new contents just because the games are free and just because they make events. Except that the community has never asked for it. I still widely prefer to return to Original AB, to pay 1,99 € and to have a complete game, offline and which I can play when I wish it. I would say that for a consequent update (new levels, achievement) I would be ready to pay again 0,50 or 1 € every 6 months. The players should not ruin themselves and if we count by billion players, Rovio gets out of it well.

Yes, I said well some ” new contents ” because you will excuse me, but for all games, only one thing which Rovio knows how to make it is to add :
    – Collectibles (Wears : AB Seasons, Parts : Bad Piggies, Karts parts : AB go, Classes & Sets : AB Epic, Collection : AB Stella, Characters : AB Transformers, Hats : AB 2)
    – Events and leagues so that the players fight between them, investing some money

Even let us not speak AB Go whom they simply erased ! At what moment in the history of the video game did a developer delete all the players’ progression on the pretext of a new version ?
We are entitled to be afraid and to wonder what is the next game in which Rovio proposes the same fate ?

You will ask me certainly ” Why this subject suddenly ? “. It is not suddenly, it makes some time that the idea trots me in head. To there the games to occupy me always, but the sensation of growing oppression gets the upper hand.
Today still, an update for Bad Piggies with in the end what ? More of collectibles ! And naturally the real problems of the players are not fixed. Indeed, it has been now several months since the bug of the achievement Game Center “Finish Road to El Porkado” isn’t solved. And I am sorry, but as player and hunter of achievement, the realizations of the achievement as the 3 starring levels is also important. Not collectibles !

Thus in summary, we have Rovio who we supplied, us the players, of everything but what we need ! Not of new levels nor achievements which work but only collectibles, on-line and competition.
Let us be, less freedom, more frustration there.

We can also add to that the mass of crap games which they take out massively, only based on gameplay used up to the marrow by other developers before them. Rovio tipped over on the way of the quantity to the detriment of the quality, purchases integrated to the detriment of the sustainability.

My vase is full. The last drop is not still there, but it risks not to delay. And would be needed a supernatural effort on behalf of Rovio to reduce all this.
I give my last chance to AB Sky Fighters from whom I wait for the release a lot. Then come what may. And if I have to abandon everything to breathe again, I shall make him. Rovio will lose one of his biggest fans.

Thank you for your time of reading.

Honestly, the only Rovio titles I currently play are Epic and Seasons. I don’t care about the other games because they have ended / they are mediocre and thus are not fun anymore.

    It’s exactly as @grimmjow says.

I too would prefer it if Rovio was to make us pay once for an app that is complete. Instead, they took the same way as many mobile game companies – commonly referred to as “Freemium”. While that is a way to make money – it’s not customer-friendly.

To me, Angry Birds was always a slingshot game – and will always be. No new soft-launch game could change my opinion on that. The original game is still enjoyable; however, I’m seeing it’s starting to get ruined now as well. It used to be an app to pay for; now, however, it’s free, and there’s more and more in-app purchases, namely for that new Mighty League feature (which isn’t that new – see ABEpic and AB2, where an arena already exists). If only it were restricted to the Mighty Eagle; that was a neat addition, like a new game mode. I loved it. However, in Angry Birds 2, ME has been degraded to a SPELL.

While Angry Birds Epic is a nice side game, it’s only really fun until you beat Wizpig in his castle. Afterwards, it’s poorly extended with the Chronicle Caves that are outside of any story, and the rest of the game is just pure grinding and hunting for new collectibles.
(I still play Rovio’s game, because I’m a completionist gamer type. I need M15 on all birds, I need all classes, I need all Elite hat upgrades.)

I won’t abandon Rovio’s games (I can’t really blame them, they just do what everyone else does – I’d rather curse at the whole video game industry for drifting away into pure capitalism). But I focus only on a single game which is Epic. While I could still play the slingshot games, that too is starting to feel like a mere tool to keep us busy. AB2, for example, doesn’t feel like a lot of heart has been put into the levels; in fact, they’re COMPUTER-generated now and definite walkthroughs like in the original games, where a level would only have a single possible layout, have become impossible. A computer has no heart.

But also, one positive thing if that even is a positive thing…
I used to play Plants vs. Zombies 2.
This game includes some so-called “Premium plants” that are either revived classics, or completely new plants that sound totally useless. They CAN’T be purchased with in-game currencies; instead, you HAVE to spend real money on them. In-app purchases driven ad absurdum. At least Rovio doesn’t do THAT (yet).

Rovio made that, in AB Transformers. Two characters were unlockable only with real money !

    …Ok. I haven’t played that game. Never mind then…

What is so great about this Freemium crap…? Rovio would make JUST as much money with 50 million people paying €1 to play, as with 5 million people paying €10 on average for in-app purchases. And the latter is probably exaggerated.
Plus, customers would be a lot happier with the better economy that a P2P game provides.

Or they could do it like Nintendo. They too have got F2P games. One example being Pokémon Rumble World. However, IAP’s are limited to a certain amount of money, and once you reach that cap, you get an unlimited source of in-game currency making it just as good as the retail version of the game.

Or how about Halfbrick? Example Jetpack Joyride. It’s an F2P game. But for a low amount of money (when I purchased it it was €0.79, now it’s €4.99 but still reasonable), you get all collected coins doubled, making it half as stressful to get the things you want.
(I heard AB GO! had a similar coin doubler but it was removed with the 2.0 update I heard – BAD move.)

IMO that main problem is the fact, that Rovio went crazy about the Movie, just remembering it:
    http://variety.com/2015/biz/news/angry-birds-rovio-layoffs-260-jobs-1201578622/
    http://www.helsinkitimes.fi/business/13289-rovio-splashes-over-100m-in-animated-feature.html?ref=nl-hs-aamu

When they started doing the movie, they just took off everything from the game developers, leaving them without anything to work. What they can do without spending too much money on new content? Collectibles, leagues, everything but new levels.

Since ~March 2015, classic slingshot games got: 6 new themes on Seasons (+Ham Dunk vol.3 and Pig Days), Treasure Hunt on Rio, Solar System on Space, Flock Favourites and Cake 6 (old themes) on Original. Overall: 8+1 new chapters, 3 low-cost addons through the last 17 months. AB2 and Pop gets new updates every 2 weeks. Coincidence?

Effects can be visible on the FB/Twitter pages: reducing any content from games, leaving them with posting 97 minutes again and again for some months.

If Rovio would stay with slingshot games with legless and Toons sprites, it would have been much better company. But they won’t leave this path, because it gives them profit anyway. Thanks to it, we have unfinshed content, lacks of updates, many soft-launched mediocre games, cash-grabs, bugs and movie sprites everywhere.

    Let’s see:
1.Movie sprites in the slingshot games.
    2.Movie sprites everywhere.
3.Mighty Eagle – was thrilling unstoppable monster, changed to big, selfish, annoying joke.
4.Lacks of HBS (AKA Hal Bubbles Stella)
5.Silver being total failure (since 17 months she had three page comic, 2 appears in the games and a plush, while Bubbles and Stella on this point were in many games)
    6.Abandonment of Angry Birds Stella.
7.Cash-grabs in the classic games (coin system, bird wears)
8.Leagues everywhere (actually in ABO, ABS, ABT, ABE, ABF, ABFr, ABG, AB2)
    9.Destroying Angry Birds Go.
    10.Bugs.
    11.Soft launching bad games.
12.Giving hand to other producers – most of the non-slingshot games are only branded as Rovio.
13.Non-uniqueness of levels – AB2 and AB Pop (also level overload)

That’s all, probably. I still like playing AB, but it’s harder every day.

6 Years ago, Rovio Entertainment was actually Rovio Mobile. Only making games. Now, it’s also an Animation studio! Making the space of game making a little tight.
I liked Angry birds since the first day i played it, and no matter what game rovio made, i got them all.
But AB GO! 2.0 really was the worst move rovio ever made!
Hope it will be the first and last.
I do like the way rovio make games, but it will be even better if keep updating them too. Events and leagues don’t count as update, but new levels do.
it’s like a year that my favourite AB game “AB Space” hasn’t updated yet.
I thought after movie, they a may return to the old days, but nope.
(Maybe their working on Movie 2 or something)

@abginebird You were close, 360 days since last ABSp update. Solar System was actually good update, like Tropigal in Seasons. But I doubt they’ll release anything in the next days, so you’re technically right. :)

Honestly, even AB2 was likeable at the start, then something somewhere happened.
I liked to enter the AB pages to find some nice info, now they only shows Movie-related things :(

I only play transformers.(ab)Only game that never let me down.

    Rovio stars:
    Nibblers+4 cube games

    Nightcrawler
    @sam-spargo

I only play abo now. I used to play abt but I gave up due to glitches

If you mean the Angry birds.com, they do post unrelated movie posts.

@abginebird I rather meant Facebook/Twitter AB pages, it used to be good place to find a lot of infos. Now, whenever I open their pages (angrybirds.com) I see only a Movie gifs, pictures with Movie designs, etc. … and Friends tournaments.

But on the otherside, 2 and Epic got rid of Movie birds on loading screen, maybe it’s started reverting to the normal state. Personally I’d like to see Movie designs only in the Movie-related things and TNT, while giving back all the classic games cool, normal designs asap. Because TNT is the last thing which I’m looking forward to in the “Angry Birds with legs” world.
