    i have been feeding my hatchling for some days and levelled up only once when I realised that it could get costly so decided to leave it at level 2.  Today I suddenly realised that it had gone up to level 4 with a cost of 50 apples!!!!  I hadn’t done it so does this automatically happen or not?  Needless to say I won’t be feeding him again.

    It wasn’t until level 4 when I realised how costly it was.  I started over and keep it at level 3.  Hopefully your hatchling doesn’t grow up without your help again.  Good luck 😉

    How many apples do you have to feed the hatchling at level 3?

    25 each time.  That seems to be my limit at the current cost of apples.  It is 50 each time once you reach level 4.  I won’t even try to keep up with that.

    I still think that it automatically increases your level because at the moment on level 4 it says 2 of 20 feeds. After that I think the level automatically increases.

    If you do not choose to go up a level it will stay where you want it to.  I surpassed the 10 meals required to level up many weeks ago.  It has not and won’t automatically go to 4 without my consent.

    Why did mine then? I only ever increased it to level 2 costing me 10 apples every 24 hours. Next thing I knew it was at level 4 costing me 50!

    Could have been a glitch.  Don’t know.  What I do know is that it shouldn’t do that.

    I’ve just read this from the Angry Birds 2 support team:

    How do I level up my Hatchling?
    By feeding your hatchling you’ll fill up the bar to level them up. If you want to level up your hatchling faster, you can also pay gems for it. To do this, simply tap the “Level Up!” button.

    I’m sure it does happen automatically. You must have been very lucky to keep yours at the level you have.

    @celia-reid, despite how the answer from “support team” looks like, hatchling has to be manually leveled up. The answer simply means that when bar is full, you’ll get a free levelup.

    I’m afraid it’s either glicth (no surprise there!) or you accidentally leveled up your hatchling. AB2 is so buggy that glitch is more likely…

    I definitely didn’t do it manually because I had already figured out, after levelling it up once, that it could get very costly in apples and I had no intention of buying any.

    Interestingly, the same day I had 4000 gems go missing so I don’t know what’s going on.

    I have contacted the Rovio team but it remains to be seen whether I get anywhere with that.

    @celia-reid, I don’t think that’s a coincidence when your hatchling levels up and you lose coins. Perhaps the device counted it as a “touch” when your finger/hand was too close to screen, while actually not yet touching it?

    About contacting Rovio… I would not hold my breath. Most likely you receive some boiler plate answer, if even that.

    @celia-reid, I’m sorry for your loss. That is a big pile of jewels. I’ve lost jewels myself few times, too… but not nearly that much.

    It sounds like you accidentally leveled up, maybe by unintentionally touching the screen, or maybe through a glitch. The game obviously used your gems to level your hatchling up early, as that costs a lot of gems. What you got for your 4000 gems was an early leveling up. I would contact Rovio, but I wouldn’t expect much.

    And, I can confirm through personal experience that your hatchling should never level up on its own.

    I still say I didn’t accidentally level up my hatchling. I would have noticed. Anyway it seems pretty useless trying to find out why it happened. We’ll see what happens with my new one.

    I have contacted Rovio and had an initial response but nothing since which also seems to be par for the course, annoyingly.

    perhaps you guys can help me with one more thing. Why have my posts had adverts in them when no one else’s have?  Is there something I can do to stop them?
