One strategy for Angry Birds Bad Piggies level 22-9 is to fling the Orange bird horizontally into the gap between the last two towers. The expanding bird can cause a massive domino effect of destruction, clearing the entire level. This is not overly common, but it seems to be the best method. The score in the video below is 163,620.

Two-bird strategy can give higher scores. First bird into the first gap (between first two structures), second one – to the third gap as on video.
My best 2-birder is 165k, with not much debris. I suspect the 170+ scores are 1-birders.
Did 168k with 2
My best 2 birder is 162 after what seems like an eternity.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! I tried probably 100 times with the video. NEVER got that lucky shot. second try with your strategy, you saved my sanity!
I used a two bird method that netted me 169k and more possible. I used @vuelva to mock a mockingbird’s angle to toss the bird into the diagonal between the last two towers, but as I missed the sweet spot wrw01 describes, I tossed a second bird in between the mostly undamaged first two towers, and got a decent 169k …. am still aiming for the sweet spot foe a one order, but satisfied with my two bird score….:-)
I tried the one bird method about 50 times, and never managed the magical domino of destruction the video shows. I tried the two bird method and got 168k in three tries.
100s 100s of flings to achieve a 1 birder. 100s of two bird attempts never broke 159990. I was forced to do it as a 1 bird because 2 birds never broke the 3 star for me. I do not ember this level the two times I did these on my IPod. The folks at Rovio must of made it harder. :-/

like @annach many thx but i reversed the shots

This is unfortunately one of those levels where the video just doesn’t do it justice, the end result in the video has to be a Super Fluke, I’ve been at it for half an hour, and the score slowly inches its way up game after game, here’s hoping I get that fluke soon, before I go totally bonkers.
@werewolf, I feel your pain ; Go for the 2-birder as annach described above, then call it a night, that 1-birder will wait for another day. :)
@bonneypattycat, actually, I just got the 1-Birder fluke, but I do think the score could have been a little higher for all this anguish.
I agree, got just 163k for all the nails I chewed to achieve the elusive 1 birder. This is one level I won’t try again soon!
It’s actually reasonably repeatable. The key is the point of inflation: it should be very close to the point in the video, at the top of the diagonal plank. The problem is getting there. I did it by flinging high and hitting just at the left edge of the rightmost tower.
I agree. I flung the bird higher and inflated just at the point you indicated. Before I got the one birder my high score with a two birder was 166K. Just a matter of how much debris is left I guess.
This is how I got several one birdies but the highest score I got was alot of 165K’s. I ultimately got more debris and higher score using the second bird between towers 1 & 2. I’m at 168720 with two birds. I’ll take it and move on ;-)
I have to agree with you @f91jsw on the strategy for the one-bird solution. It is repeatable but the difference comes to us in the results produced. I was stuck at 167K for a few days but kept fling’n. There is a “sweet spot” at the left top of the bottom diagonal plank. I have hit it a few times and this last time everything was destroyed. The grey wrench and a few wood/stone blocks remained.
Aiming tip: zoom in and look for a spike on the bottom of the tree that goes behind the sling in the background. With an iPad I tried to keep a small space between the spike and the body/beak of OB. Minor adjustments may be needed depending on the device one may us. Most of the time it should hit the left side of the top right stone block. I would activate it anywhere near the lower diagonal plank. Then pray.
followed that strategy: to left side of top-right stone block, bird should bounce back to top-left of diagonal wood in the gap (not infrequent, every few minutes). activate upon impact there. praying doesn’t seem necessary as i got 175k (155k+20k bonus) without it (got lucky after something like 10-15 attempts as described). here’s a screenshot showing the trajectory, destruction, score of that one:
http://angrybir.de/UUwXgT
(the 167k highscore until then, showing in the screenshot, was with 2 birds, obtained by lobbing the 2nd into the gap between 1st and 2nd tower, bouncing off the 2nd, activating it when level with the lowest stones in the towers. definitely worth to try this when the 1st is largely but not completely successful. i had been a bit unlucky not to get more, but 170k+ should be possible with it, i think.)
thanks for the aiming tip @wrw01, it was really helpful
Trying to improve my 171k during the Challenge is proving to be an effort in futility, however, perhaps it’s because I’m flinging on my iPad instead of my original device, an Android phone. I’ve always believed there are differences between platforms &/or devices, but then again out of the Top 10, none list Android, in fact 1/2 are iPad, so who knows?
The following phrase, a Casey Stengelism is probably 50+ yrs old, but so apropos …. “Who would have thunk it?” I mean seriously, who would have thought it easier to get a good score on an itsy, bitsy, teeny, weeny phone screen? I’m not giving up & obviously with Challenge scores of 172k – 175k it’s still possible.
My best 2-Birder is 154310, but the really frustrating one is the 1-Birder at 157230. Time to move on & come back to this one later.
1-birdie!! OB in between the 3rd & 4th pillars breaking the plank – manually detonated just above the lower plank to ensure maximum debris – all other pillars, piggies & TNT wiped out!
A good reference spot to aim with the first bird: zoomed out, aim just a fraction to the left of the tree on top of the butte that is to the right of the sling.
Same shot as the video but shot on a higher arc. Gave more time to inflate manually. Though the domino effect did not work. Had to use another bird in between the first two towers.
Note: However shooting first bird in between 2nd and 3rd towers resulted in a chain destruction.
@ayan, please limit your use of the “new strategy” blue feature to NEW strategies. Tips on an existing strategy are always appreciated, but should not be confused with a new strategy. Thanks.
Ok, sorry @BPC for the inconvenience though. :(
165370 1 bird, same as video. Had given up trying for 1B and but decided to lob 1st bird into 3rd tunnel and 2nd bird into 1st. However first bird wiped out everything. Ya ahoo.
One bird for high score, between third and fourth tower, the trick is to have it lie on the left side of the lower plank for optimum destruction.
I noticed a possibility for minor self-inflicted destruction on this level. The third and fourth towers were swaying a little and the top diagonal wooden plank that spans the two towers slipped away. This caused the fourth tower to sway even stronger. Unfortunately I had already lobbed my first bird and did not have a chance to see if the entire tower would be forced to collapse into the other three like dominoes.
Has anyone noticed this? If it happens again I’ll try to wait to see if the tower falls and report back.
Thanks for the report. Hope you see it again.
This is what is in the forum on self-destroying and unstable levels.
ABO 21-9: partial, 990; long top right plank falls shortly after restart; may not help; ~1/50
Please report any additional info in the forum as well as here. I often miss it on the walkthrough pages.

So very tired of this level. Before coming here I had, and still have, only 157K and 2*. Video method has never, never, never killed the right pig in the pit. It does result in better domino effect than lobbing the orange bird as I had been doing, But lobbing and inflating lower down seems to be the only way I’ve been able to ensure a pig in the pit kill. Unfortunately, and I really don’t know why, lobbing the bird does not result in the domino effect. My high score of 157K was done by the method @annach outlined. I’ve been on Bad Piggies for almost a week and I still have almost 10 levels I cannot 3*. I cannot wait to be done with it so I can move on to Surf and Turf.
same here. i have been trying different ways and get the same results. i cannot go higher than 157k after hundred tries. i am using mini ipad. i wonder if that is the problem?
Wow – second attempt and the domino effect worked right to left to give me a decent score obtainment/achievement. Thanks to ABN staff !
Heading into hour three on this level, replicated the video three times and have not been able to get over 158000 2* score with it. arggggggggggggggg!
The video is the way to go. No need to read all the tactics. Persistence!
I normally don’t have a lot to add…but this level was way to frustrating. Thanks for the tips.
Arghhhhh! Day two on this level and no end in sight. I’ve tried every tactic listed, tried for a sweet spot and everything. Not sure where I’m going wrong :(
I’m playing on an iPhone 5 and start with the bird just left and equal to the tree spike (kinda square looking tree) with its eyes. I then throw him & about 1 in 5 times he lands inbetween the end two towers rather than over shooting. I’ve tried for a second bird tactic too but either end up with the diagonal board over the far pig on TNT blocked or have the two first towers collapse I to each other without destroying.
Any suggestions?! Please help! I’ve told my husband if I die before I complete this level to keep trying!!!
PS My top score is 157 850 with 2 birds
I can’t imagine how I ever got my crappy score of 163k the first time around because for challenge today I’m topping out at 158 and have not achieved a 1 bird clear even once. I’m getting decent destruction with 2 birds but the score is terrible. For those getting high 160’s with 2 there can’t be even one piece of stone left. Another challenge say abandoned for lack of fun. I much prefer those where progress is possible, even if it’s only a few hundred points at a time. Good luck all!
I’ve been able to 1-bird the level on several occasions by expanding OB at dead-center of the complex between the 2nd and 3rd towers. (Actually slightly below dead-center more inline with the short blocks that sit on top of the motors). Sometimes you have to wait for one or both of the end towers to topple if at first they are left standing ~ wait to see if they start to “teeter” and then if the teeter turns into the topple….
Just flung my 68,840 score with a 1-birder expanded between the 2nd and 3rd towers. The debris exploded outwards with a violence I had not seen before using any of the strategies ~ it was truly fun to watch! Perhaps that was because these two center towers are slightly closer together than the outer two pairings? It also seems easier to fling OB between the 2nd and 3rd towers on a more consistent basis than between the between the 3rd and 4th towers.
Wow, only a few hours left on the Challenge & I don’t remember ever seeing so few improved scores, only 17 so far. Or maybe everyone is off playing Stella instead :)
I’ve spent about 3 hours on this since it started last night & haven’t had a single 1-birder. I managed a 4k improvement with 2 birds – the 1st to the last gap, trying for the 1-birder, then the 2nd a high lob between the 1st 2 towers, right down to the bottom where the pig is before inflating. I feel a bit lucky, most of my 2-bird scores didn’t even earn 3 stars,
This is one of those over-challenged levels I thought should be retired from the list. Not much room for anyone to improve, especially the old-timers. I played this one a few hours last night and today, and have yet to get a single 3* score or 1-birder. My best was 159,980. Tough level. :)
@Kelani / @karen68 ~ Have you guys tried the middle towers aiming point rather than the 3rd and 4th towers? I seem to have gotten on a lucky roll using it although I may have maxed out at the +75K score that just came my way.
@uncle-b I did try your way for a while, but with no luck. I went back to the other strat just because it sets up better for a 2-birder.
I’d decided I was done with this one but maybe later I’ll try your strat again. Congrats on your awesome score! :D
@uncle-b I also tried it for awhile. It always seemed to lazily knock down the first three towers, and leave the 4th one standing. Just saw your awesome score, and clearly it’s a good strategy. I guess this level’s just not in a giving mood today. great job on that score, man :)
I have a confession to make. I shouldn’t even be on the improved list. The only reason I am is because I under-reported my original score by 50 points. I’m also more of a pessimist than @karen68 I’ve never gotten a 3* score with a 2-birder, so if the 1-birder didn’t happen, I’d just reset.
I agree @Kelani that if the deck isn’t cleared with the 1st shot you might as well reset and not even attempt the 2nd shot if the objective is to achieve High Score. The best I’ve done with the 2nd bird was around 167K.
There is definitely a “sweet spot” that you’ll immediately realize you’ve hit because the outward explosion of both the 2nd and 3rd towers is like nothing you’ve seen before on this level. The bird is dropping so fast that I haven’t been able to tell exact;y where it is other than to say it is centered between the two towers and at or slightly below mid-height.
@karen68 Next time this is a challenge we should see quite a few improved scores, unless of course they try it now. See my post at the bottom.
I know in the videos discussion of the strategy it says the strategy is not common, AND IT ISNT!! We are talking a probable lucky shot that they claim is the best method. Wrong-o. It just a lucky break on a hail mary orange bird pass. To seriously concider the videos method as the “strategy”, would be like say scratching off your lotto tickets in a counter clock wise motion would get you the million dollar jackpot just because someone tried it and won. My strategy involved 2 birds and an butt load of dumb luck… oh and many attempts to slumble across the dumb luck part. Some people need to post video strategies that have been tested repeatedly and proven to get results before they are/should be concidered “strategies”. I understand that it does say their strategy in the video is not common, like saying “results not typical. So, you may want to add that in you calculations as to the success of your shots in this level. Find your own strategy, test many times, then post you tried and true strategy ladies and gentlemen, not a lucky Houdini shot.
Big changes to this level. I don’t know if a 1-birder is easier, but the 2-birders are producing quite a few more points. I am up to 178k with 2 birds.
I am adding this level to my list:
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/forums/topic/abo-levels-worth-another-try/
Two tries and 181k. This used to be so hard.
right. 187100/2 with 3 pieces left.
? I scored 171,050 using a 2 bird strategy on my first attempt at this level — just sayin’ .. ? my idea of fun!
Oh — ok, now I see the level is easier than it used to be so maybe i’m not as cool as I thought — maybe I will have another go … ?
Five minutes of flinging, improved my high score from 169k to 181k. Wow.
Did I mention I cleared, like all debris?
@christian-cosgrove @admins Mechanic Pig you have a great many 1st places on this episode without any sort of strategy or pictures to back them up. Sorry to be cynical but ….!
@steviep147 I forgot the screenshots and just accidentally deleted the game :(
Oh! Perhaps you would like to reconsider your scores?
@admins. Your call here. Happy New Year.
@admins. Your call here.
@christian-cosgrove
This isn’t exactly what we mean with “proof your scores”. Therefore I will delete them all. Sorry
@admins @steviep147
Just got 180330 aiming for the third gap and then the first gap. More interestingly, anyone had the following phenomenon/glitch? On a previous attempt, with the first bird aimed down the third gap and nearly down to the TNT, when it expanded it seemed to travel through the final tower and end up on the outside. Needless to say, very little damage was done.
187380/2 for 2nd place but registered since top spot does not appear to be substantiated. Sweet spots for rear followed by front gaps. Rinse and repeat, obviously.
This may be easier than the high lobs.
https://youtu.be/X2_e0xA7WdY
Sorry I’ve just noticed that the walkthrough used something very similar with one. Doh!
Same as my video. @sweetp for the Puppy. Thanks
https://angrybir.de/3PHKQfR
190220 with two birds.
I have been using @annach strategy and reversed the shots.
The first one is between the third and fourth towers, passing as close as possible to the aviator pig and inflating a small tad below the juncture between the two vertical stone blocks on the fourth tower.
I manage to regularly get above 100k with the first two towers mostly intact. Up to 102k is possible.
The second shot is a high arc between the first two towers, inflating when coming down around the middle of the motors (or whatever they are).
Here is the final result.
And this is the highscore screenshot.
All the screenshots are also available in high res here in one set.
@sweetp
