Happy Birthday Angry Birds! The Angry Birds “Birdday Party” update (v2.0.0) is now available for iOS, Mac, PC, Nokia, and Android via the Android Market and Amazon AppStore. This update — which Rovio announced a few days ago — celebrates the two year anniversary of Angry Birds! And coincidentally, we also wish a very happy birthday to Bird Leader as well (who is just a wee bit older than 2)!

Notice to all users: An update numbered v2.0.2 is making its way around and includes several bug fixes. It has thus far landed for all platforms, I beleive (Mac, PC, Nokia, iOS, and both Android ports). These improvements include: Fixing the “Scores Ending in 9” bug, Golden Egg #1 missing from Mac/PC, trackpad sensitivity issues on Mac, Facebook levels being permanently locked, and more.
This update includes:
- 15 new levels, some of which are very challenging. We have video walkthroughs available if you need help.
- A secret achievement that is a bit challenging to unlock (video walkthrough).
- One more Golden Egg, which is revealed in our Complete Golden Eggs guide.
- Big change to the Golden Egg levels, to achieve the star you now have to surpass a minimum score, much like a normal level.
- The Orange/Globe Bird is now available.
- A brand new pause screen that is being dubbed the, “Rovio Channel”. Note: There seems to be no way of disabling this, which I know many will find a bit frustrating.
- New “Level Completed/Failed” screen that is quite similar to the one seen in Rio.
- One of the pause menu items shows a map of New York with the words “Coming Soon”… Interesting, at least.
Rovio has said, “It’s a cool new feature we’ll be experimenting with in the future”. - Pro Tip! Birthday Cakes are worth 3000 points!

I don’t know if this was answer already but, you said apps are limited to 1000 Achievement points. Is this the reason ABS is split and how many points does ABS have? Thanks
I saw someone say earlier that ABS being split doesn’t affect the number of points it can have. Any app can only have 1000 points I think.
That’s not the reason why Seasons is split. Splitting means nothing. It’s still 1 app.
Ok. So how many points does ABS have? Will both ABS & AB have to end once they reach 1000?
We don’t know what Rovio is planning, but they are aware of the situation.
As much as I hate thinking about it, I think they really just gotta set up the last 5 standard achievements (the ones someone above was “surprised” to hear were missing), create a final achievement for beating the entire game, all achievements completed, and then continuing on in an ABo2, or another spin off like seasons. I hate thinking about the end of the classic game, but Rovio truly deserves to get some more money in with another $0.99 app. They’ve been extremely generous with with these hundreds of levels from free updates… It’s kinda time to say bye to ABo ;,,(

I’m sorry man, makes me sad too just to think about ;( but I agree, an ABo2 is a lot better idea than another spin off, but all I have to say in all of this is that if they do decide to make a second game, let’s make sure NOT to waste achievement space by giving you an achievement for simply completing a chapter lol

I hope it’s not the end, and it doesn’t seem like it after this update. But they are running out of space in the game center for achievements. So it could happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if they started “Angry Birds Classic 2” for more room.

Hey everyone, is it just my device or has it taken longer for the Level Completed screen to pop up after you finish a level? It seems like a good ten seconds between finishing a level and the screen poping up on many levels.
I didn’t notice it myself, what device are you using?

Actually, I’ve had a slight lag for everything, in addition to the delay of the Level Completed screen. I blame this on the updated Level Completed screen and Pause Menu.
I bet the map icon on the pause screen will track some tour Rovio will do. Then you will be able to see where the tour is at any moment. Just a guess. Wow, I’ve wasted half the day playing AB!

Angry Birds is harmless.
There are countless games out there where you can actually drive jets into buildings. Huge commercial games.
If someone is ticked off about Angry Birds relating to 9-11, they have another deeply rooted psychological issue
I think the only thing that would work for Manhattan would be if the pigs tried to set up camp in Central Park or something, and we blasted pig houses only. If they used skyscrapers, there would be too many people saying it was like 911. We saw all those comments for Danger Above and Rio Airfield Chase.

ummm i have windows, today i started playing angry birds but even with the internet connected it didn’t ask me to install the new update,is it because i have windows and not ios? or something goes wrong???
This update is not out on PC yet. As the post says, other platforms will come soon.

A thing you didn’t mention in the post is the revised videos before and after each episode. They changed the sky and the look of the yellow bird. Happy Birdday to you all!

I already Finished . So I got my Cakemonger slice . My 3 stars. And finished all levels whit 3 stars . Very happy ,and happy birthday to my favorite game. Kudos and laughs .

I really shouldn’t read the comments on these things as they only make me mad. All they seem to be filled with are people moaning about something they keep getting for free after a small outlay of a few pence/cents (delete as applicable).
So the pause screen has changed and you can’t disable it. So the points award screen is the same as Rio, now. So the design didn’t alter as much as you thought it would. And?
When you create a game that becomes a worldwide phenomenon then you can alter it as you see fit, the same way George Lucas has changed Star Wars. (Don’t get me started on that. I know, hypocrisy abounds!)
I think Angry Birds is an awesome franchise that keeps getting better and better. The new levels are tougher than the last which shows thought has gone into this update. Rovio are constantly on the ball with these updates. Oh sure, some problems happen now and again but that’s only to be expected. All those of you who complain that something is bugged or doesn’t work quite as you expected, let me ask you this….Does everything you do work out 100% as you thought it would with no problems? If you answer yes then you’re a liar.
Ok kids, this rant will end now. I’m off to 3 star the last few levels of this new update!

True.. but this isn’t Rovio’s forum – it’s a fan forum to discuss Angry Birds. Seems to be what is going on here.
In any marketplace – criticism is taken into account as feedback. It can and does alter the end results of a product and any iterations thereof.
My advice: If people you don’t know are making you mad online – don’t read all of the comments unless you work for Rovio, or are writing a school paper/blog entry about the fans that comment on angrybirdsnest.com.

I hope they don’t change it (I’d like to see one version stick with origional graphics) but they probably will change it. Well, another reason to have AB lite. It has the first graphics.
Great update so far. The graphics are quite good and I actually like the new pause screen. It puts everything in one place that is user friendly and not hard to scroll or accidentally tap like the last one. I also like the new color scheme as well.
Any one else finding level 2 to be very hard to pass? I’ve tried almost every method I can think of. The hardest part of that level seems to be taking out the top pigs while getting the other ones.
I keep seeing comments on here that AB has to end. I don’t understand what the reason is, is it an iPhone thing? I use Android. (Not knocking iPhone, I just don’t understand the game center thing everyone is talking about, and why there is a limitation on how many levels we can have). Why would that mean no more levels for ABo?
I don’t think ABo is going to end, but iOS achievements may.
On iOS, they only allow 1000 points in achievements. Right now, ABo is around 900 or so. Nonetheless, I doubt Rovio would end the app just for that. If anything, they may discontinue the concept of achievements, which … well, that’s not a big deal.
Well, given some of the comments I’ve read here about Game Center, a couple things are apparent:
a) The Game Center design team never anticipated the runaway popularity of expandable game apps like AB and it’s offshoots.
b) The Game Center codebase was far too hackable by cheaters with no moderator to deter such activity.
So the options are simply to discontue GC, which would cause much online unrest, even here at ABN, or rewrite the code to allow for expansion and deter hackers and cheaters. We’ll just have to see what happens. As an Android user, GC issues have no effect on me, but it should be mildly interesting to see what happens.
Would they end crystal achivments too?
Thanks for the clarification Slim. I think Truck Driver is right, the best thing that could happen for iPhone users would be for the GC team to work hard to rapidly rewrite the code to allow for further expansion.
Anyway, I’m glad to know that AB can continue in spite of those limitations!
For the record, even if they reach the 1000 points maximum for achievements, they could still add achievements; they’d have to be worth 0 points, though (which is possible).
I’m sure Rovio is aware of this possibility and considering it. But I would think they are looking for an alternative to 0-point achievements.
hey slim, what they could do is add an in-game achievements system just like in “Where’s My Water?”. They will probably end up doing that and make the achievements worth some points and maybe if they earn enough points they could unlock extra bonus levels.
Yeah, but then GC users will get mad, because they have nothing to show to their friends. I do like the in-game achievement system though…
Not really in the mood to sort through 250 comments, but with this update, any word on a “fix” for smash maniac? Something to prevent the count from resetting, an actual counter we can see? Anything. I spent about 5 hours playing the GE level, but I don’t want to spend anymore time unless there is some hope it is not all for naught.
There’s no counter, but Smash Maniac is not bugged unless you toast your settings file.
But have they done anything to prevent said “toasting”. Just would hate to work for hours and hours to get to 490,000, only to have it reset. And you don’t even really know when it resets.

Nax, if you have an issue with how Rovio operates, you are more than welcome to talk to them. But Rovio’s blog post specifically said that iOS would receive “Birdday Party” yesterday, and their Wreck the Halls blog post specifically said Nokia would receive the update later. So you shouldn’t really be surprised.
I do believe it was iOS which allowed the Angry Birds to become popular. So to be fair, without iOS, there wouldn’t be an Angry Birds to play on Nokia =)

Actually it wasn’t only iOS wich made AB popular, there was also Nokia’s OS, Maemo (with N900 devices), where AB became very popular. So, I think Nokia’s devices shouldn’t be getting these updates nearly month later…
As I have suggested before, you are welcome to bring this up with Rovio directly. They have openly said that Nokia is rather different programming, though.
Yes, that’s true. But, if Rovio just brought the Mighty Eagle to Symbian, it would make me to forgive this everything. I have played it in AB Chrome, and I can’t wait untill it comes to Symbian… There will be so much to do!
