Just another update ‘wait or pay’. It’s really annoying, because it’s introducing even to classic games.
Programming bug: If you will pull first Matilda on lvl 7, Bomb behind will push and rotate her.
On levels 2,6,7,9,12 the sling is nearer then normally, and that’s explain rotating birds. Also levels 8 and 13 are candidates for that, but I don’t noticed anything here.
Ok now Rovio has officially moved into the “pay or play” state. I have been a fan for long but this is really moving into the “let’s grab the money” stage. Totally disgusted – sorry!
I totally agree! I have played since day 1…and Rovio has been slowly losing me as they’ve moved away from the classic game play (why change a successful model??? Oh yeah, there’s no money in that!) Rio was always my fav game, then Seasons, but now it’s timed levels & coins?? I 3 star a level the first time on most occasions – been playing for 20 minutes, up to L14 & now the next level is locked for 6 HOURS or pay 120 coins. Seriously?? You wait MONTHS & MONTHS for an update on the older games & then this? Bye bye Rovio!
I’ve used all my free coins to get to L14…started at 10 coins to progress, then 25, then 60…have just tried the ‘change the date” trick on my iPad & IT WORKED! Sucked in Rovio! I shall continue to play for FREE!!
I use this trick, after set time, immediatly come up notification, new level open, come back to play.
Time to open getting more and more, 10 min, 15 min, … 1 hour.
IKR! Rovio is really getting ridiculous and greedy with the angry birds games.
First, the consumable policy.
Next, Paywalls in PAID GAMES.
And then the Paid Product Placement.
And then Timers and Lives.
Rovio is honestly becoming worse than King.com, Supercell, and EA put together,
What I originally wrote was out of pure frustration, but after a few days I feel the need to explain this a bit without the emotional outburst.
ABO has been my favorite game for a long time, including the added versions Seasons, Rio etc. You purchase the games and then play. You can compete with other players around the globe and share strategies and ideas here on ABN, which makes it even more fun. If you want higher scores, you can buy POs, but his is optional and the possibility to do so can be disabled in the game. To me using POs takes the fun out of the game, but maybe I’m just too old school. You have a choice though, which is fine.
The later releases from Rovio have in my opinion included an increased amount of clutter. I no longer seem to have any control over little bird-coins to be collected, “free” packages that fly down into the game, telepods, time delays etc. All of this, I am sure, is meant to increase the revenue base for Rovio who is currently struggling financially. Fair enough and I understand the need to bring in new business. However I think there is a big risk that what they are doing is instead scaring off the old customers, i.e. the players that have paid for and enjoyed their games in the past. One of the things you learn in business school is that it’s much more expensive to gain a new customer than to maintain a customer that you already have. I think this behavior increases the risk of losing your current customer base and even further add to the financial troubles at Rovio.
A suggestion could be to charge for updates instead of supplying them for free. I certainly would be willing to pay for that, instead of getting free ones with all the extra junk that I do now want nor like.
I understand how annoying it can be when you folks will have to wait for levels to be opwn once a level is completed. :(
But on the bright side, at least the 2.5.0 update fixed the graphic issues from the 2.4.0 update. Now the graphics on the iPod Touch 5th gen look much better. :)
It’s official, Rovio has totally sold out! The fact that we now have to “wait or pay” to access subsequent levels is ridiculous!!! Hey, here is an idea Rovio…leave the classic games alone! SMH…
A little annoying to wait for levels to open, but hey! NEW LEVELS!!!! I can deal with the delays.
I’m getting quite annoyed at all these wait X minutes or pay things they have in their games now days. I still love Angry Birds, but I’m losing my interest in it now when even the old games are going in to the freemium style.
Rovio is getting greedy nowadays…
I think its because of the new employees Rovio hired, or a new CEO
@sonnykero They actually had to let go half of their employees. Very difficult times for Rovio right now.
@sal9 @roviohuzz — if they really let go half their employees, they ought to reconsider their business model. Why not have an option to pay $2, $3 or even $5 to open all levels immediately. I can’t remember when, if ever, I paid anything for Rio. I don’t use power-ups, so they aren’t going to get any money from me that way.
@sal9
Why does Rovio fires half of their employees?
I STILL don’t understand why Rovio fires half of their employees, I mean, lots of workers, means faster job getting done, I still remember Angry Birds Seasons in 2011, they create a level once a day.. When in 2012,2013,2014, They make it so we can pay to unlock all levels
@sonnykero, that was in the Advent tradition, releasing one level per day. From 2012 on, you had the option to pay to open the rest of the levels. For myself, as with many other players, I chose to keep with the Advent tradition and wait for a new level to open each succeeding day.
So you see, Rovio did not force players to pay to open the levels. That’s just one of the choices of the In-App Purchases you could have made.
I agree with you MVNLA2, I would be more than willing to pay to open all levels. I love angry birds but for sure they are getting away from their roots.
Also disliking the wait or pay idea.
Funny but I kind of expected the new episode to be full of treasure hunt style levels, and yet, from the three levels that I’ve played so far (22mins before I can play level 4!) I’m not seeing much in the way of a treasure hunt, in fact, these levels are quite reminiscent of hidden harbour and blossom river imo, so all in all, quite a disappointing update really.
Seriously? 29mins before I can play level 5?!
Oh, forgot to say, the coins in levels is nothing new, ABsw2 had those, so what next for ABr, character swaps?
Character swaps, or limited lives like in AB2
“Let us know what you think of this update”
I’d really like to know, what the nest thinks of this update? I can see why Rovio, a once renowned leader in mobile games, is now a true follower. AB2’s game model, follows that of every game we now play.. which also reminds me, it’s bad enough that Angry Birds Pop is an exact duplicate of Bubble Witch Saga 2, (and what surprises me more, is that King games has no concern about it)… but why are you messing with AB Rio?
Birdleader… it’s a pat on the back, having your website linked to Facebook’s AB Friends, and I am sure it fluffs your feathers… but don’t you and the gang here have anything to say? You mentioned it “adds 20 more levels”, but this is your site.. perfectly fine to just say.. “Well, looks like Rovio is going to go back and add all these pay/wait to play features to all those games we once had a blast playing”.
Well another game has gone into “wait or pay” mode. What game is next? Probably Angry Birds Seasons. :P
Oh no. I don’t want this “wait or pay” mode for seasons, original or space… PLEASE ROVIO
maybe they do this this because they want us to play the game in a week or more. If not we’ll finish in 1 hour and then we’ll want new stuff again. The wait gives us more time for the new update, I guess!
but I agree with everyone it’s annoying and old style was much better.
The “wait or pay” system is sure annoying, especially since it forces you to wait after every single level (unlike every 10 or so in AB Stella Slingshot) but IMO it’s still better than the “lives” abomination of AB2.
“Wait or pay” not a very big problem for offline game as you can adjust your device time to skip the wait time. Just a suggestion for those who can’t wait and don’t want to pay.
Still no update on my iPad. From previous comments I do not seem to be missing such.
I have to agree with all of you, I don’t usually speak up but this is just disgusting! I feel that I am being ripped off because I paid 2.99 when it came out. If this continues to ABO or Seasons, it’s the end of the line for me. Looks like the Angry Birds (Rovio) are slowly turning into greedy pigs!
I was so excited for the update until I updated and opened it…oh well, I’ll still play, but I’m not paying to play.
Happy to see an update, but I won’t pay either!!
I don’t need a cool down period. I just want to play the gsme and not wait every time i finish a level. How stupid.
I usually only play one or two levels a day anyways so having to wait doesn’t have any effect for me. And I don’t use powerups and have already unlocked all other levels so coins are useless to me too. And since I have been collecting them almost everyday since they were introduced (just in case they ever did have a use for me) I have more than enough to unlock all the levels if I wanted to. So all in all this new way doesn’t bother me in one bit. The watch a video to unlock the next level that they added to Bad Piggies is much more intrusive than this.
I don’t think it’s too much of an inconvenience to wait just 10 minutes for the next level to open. It just gives me an opportunity to go back to other episodes in Rio and improve my scores. And when you’re busy flinging away to squeeze a few hundred or thousand points out of the debris damage, 10 minutes goes by very quickly.
10 minutes?-and the rest!-finally got a download and now waiting for level 5 to open-only 27 minutes + now……..
I refuse to pay on principle.
Level 14 to 15 wait time = 6 hours!
I am unhappy with Rovio about how their business model is evolving and think they are really doing their best to annoy a long-standing customer base, happy if we don’t continue our love affair with AB as long as new customers come along who have grown up on freemium games, coins, power-ups, intrusive adverts etc.
Anybody who already updated, can you answer 2 questions about ‘wait or pay’:
1) Is just the new episode effected or is ‘wait or pay’ expanded to old episodes as well?
2) Is the payment to cancel waiting always 10 coins?
@micromax – this is just for new levels, you have to wait or pay to open them. Once a level is open, you can play it as much as you want without any wait. 10 coin payment is only for a couple of first levels, then the payment gradually increases (and so does wait time). For example, for levels 10 to 14 wait is 4 hours or payment 60 coins, for levels 15 to 20 wait time is 6 hours or payment 120 coins.
Ty @annach, your answer is more than complete! I happen to have 2k+ coins, so no reason to postpone update. See you in Treasure Hunt ;-)
10 minutes and more indeed. Already waiting 57 minutes for level 7
The 10 minutes, is for the first three levels if I remember, haven’t played it in a few days… however, it grows exponentially larger after that. EX: 10 mins, then 20.. 40, 1 hr, 2 hrs, and my last level I am at now.. level 10.. is at 4 hrs. So I am sure, by the time I get to level 20.. it will be up to a day, possibly more, someone would have to verify as well.
Oh… needed to add this as well, just like Facebook’s AB upping the coinage cost of buying power ups (doubling it in most cases).. the coins needed to go to the next level, follow this same path.
This update is truly a Treasure Hunt …
… for Rovio. The “wait or pay”, even if it can be circumvented, is really a bad move which indicates how bad the situation with Rovio is. And the stupid thing is that they called it upon themselves. When they released ABO, business was booming and everybody played it. Now that every fart in the game costs money (game money or real money), more and more people are dropping out, resulting in the already mentioned mass job reduction at Rovio.
I hate this ‘wait to play’ method. I use time settings on my device to play the levels faster…
I get 1* on a level to open the next level to get the timer going, then return to the 1* level.
Rovio has really gone downhill-AB2 was awful-a money making racket which I have long stopped playing- now they are messing with the classics to make more money.
@sal9 Hey, I boticed some new content in Angry Birds Go! today. Apparently, the Rocky Road Chapter has yet another new kart. It’s a sports car built out of LEGO blocks, so I call it, the “LEGO Car”.
It is only used by CPU racers at this time, so we can’t use it yet. But at least I was able to point that LEGO Car out. Gives kudos to me for discovering this. :)
Anyway, have an awesome day and keep things furious!! :D
P.S. I sent you a message a few days ago.
There is an offer that unlocks all levels for 240 coins. Tap on the present button to reveal offers, they seems to appear in a random order. If you’re lucky take the offer and go ahead, I’ve already 3 starred the episode. If not don’t worry, let the offers expire and you’ll get new ones soon.
On my tablet I have to wait 59 minutes to play each episode so it’s pretty much one per day with work etc
The wait gets longer as you progress-as does the cost of buying out of the wait-which can be up to 6 hrs and 120 coins. Just finished the last level, every coin on all levels collected-including the measly 50 coins for completion of all levels -none spent to open levels. Found the whole thing a bit disappointing-only coins to collect and no sets of objects to collect-like anchors for example-and some levels far too easy.
Played a few levels. Nice game play and the typical colorful backgrounds and effects that Rio has traditionally offered. This level is called Treasure Hunt so I will assume it applies to both sides of the game which is fine with me. Rovio is a business and if they do not make a profit on their products we will not get the pleasure of playing any new games.
I’ve collected all the coins, three stars on every level and the eagle and can’t play the newest update to angry birds rio treasure hunt. 20 boards with locks on them and no option to unlock. Help!
How do you unlock level 21?
Rio treasure hunt latest download doesn’t open on iphone 6
