At long last! At very long last! Angry Birds Space has landed for iOS, PC, Mac, NOOK Color, and Android via the Android Market and Amazon Appstore. We will definitely know more as we delve a bit deeper into Angry Birds Space, but here’s what we know so far. The initial launch of Angry Birds Space includes:
- 60 gravity-defying levels: 30 from Pig Bang and 30 from Cold Cuts. The Angry Birds Space leaderboard is online and ready for your scores. Walkthrough pages are also up, so feel free to provide your strategies and help us track down those minimum 3 star scores.
- 30 brain-teaser, extremely difficult levels in an episode called Danger Zone. Our video walkthroughs are available, but we warn you that they are very challenging. On iOS, Danger Zone is an in-app purchase, though level one is already unlocked, so you can try one level before you chose to buy the episode for $0.99. On PC, Danger Zone unlocks if you pass all 30 levels Pig Bang. It is available for free on Samsung Android devices. As for other devices, only time will tell.
- A Golden Eggsteroids episode, which are the Angry Birds Space equivalent to Golden Eggs. This episode is locked by default. It unlocks once you’ve found your first Golden Eggsteroid. When found, Golden Eggsteroids unlock bonus levels, some levels pay homage to a few classic 1980’s video games. This is reportedly Rovio’s not-so-subtle nod to its video game predecessors.
- For iOS there are new achievements via Game Center. For the first time we’ve actually created some video walkthroughs that can help with some of the hard achievements.
- Poppable space suits (bubbles) on the home screen and throughout the game (i.e. check out the credits).
- New animated bird help menus that help you understand the different powers.
- The Space Eagle is making an appearance (see more below).
- Quick tip #1! Frozen pigs will pop on their own.
- Quick tip #2! To unlock the first level in an episode you need to hit the “Play” button and watch the first comic. Afterwards, you’ll be taken to the very first level.
- Quick tip #3! If you hit an Eggsteroid, like the one on level 1-9, you’re automatically transported via a wormhole to that Eggsteroid level.
- Quick tip #4! Lazer Bird isn’t affected by gravity when he’s targeting (after tap), but after impacting something gravity will exert force.
As you can tell, Angry Birds Space is launching on many platforms at once. Here’s a quick breakdown on the different flavors and their subsequent cost. Regardless of what version you chose, I’m sure the few dollars that it sets you back will be well worth it. In most cases it’s cheaper than a Happy Meal at McDonald’s.
- iOS: There are two flavors. The SD version costs $0.99 USD, which is identical to the other Angry Birds apps in the past. The HD version costs $2.99 USD, which includes retina support for the new iPad (colloquially, the iPad 3). At this time, it is unclear if there will be a free and/or trial version like the other three apps. Angry Birds Space for iOS will run on iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPod Touch (3rd, 4th gen) and requires iOS 4.0 or later (iPad requires 4.2 or later).
- Android via Amazon Marketplace: There is a free ad-supported version, a $0.99 ad-free version, and a $2.99 HD version for Kindle Fire (nice!).
- Android via Android Market / Google Play: Just as above, there is a free ad-supported version, a $0.99 ad-free version called “Premium”, an a $2.99 HD version for tablets. Requires Android OS 1.6, just as before.
- PC: $5.95, a dollar more than the other Angry Birds apps in the past (the extra dollar may be for Danger Zone being included). There is also a demo available which allows you to play levels 1-1 through 1-15 of Pig Bang.
- Mac: $4.99 and requires OS X 10.6.6 or later.
Understanding The Mighty Space Eagle
The Mighty Space Eagle has arrived, although it’s not exactly what you’re used to! On iOS at least, we first see the option to use the Space Eagle on level 1-11 of Pig Bang. The Space Eagle pops out of the sardine can through a wormhole and quickly blasts the surrounding area before returning to Earth. There are a few important differences though.
- You must have at least one unfired bird in the slingshot to use the sardine can.
- Most notably, the Space Eagle isn’t buy once, unlimited use. Rather, it’s treated more like a power-up. On iOS you receive three trials and then are prompted to purchase more. You can buy 20 cans for $0.99, 80 for $2.99, 280 for $7.99, or 980 for $19.99. We should also mention that you can earn Space Eagles via gameplay, though probably not enough to make significant progress in feather collecting.
- Using the Space Eagle does NOT automatically pop all pigs and clear the level, like it does in the other versions of Angry Birds. You must keep flinging.
- We’ve heard reports that the number of birds you use actually affects your destruction percentage. In the past the birds could help you, but didn’t directly affect your percentage. This is unconfirmed.
Let’s Find those Golden Eggsteroids! Clues Abound
Update! We’ve found all five Eggsteroids and our Complete Angry Birds Space Golden Eggsteroids Guide is ready and waiting if you need it. The Golden Eggsteroids leaderboard is up as well, so head on over and enter your scores.
If you want to track them down the Golden Eggsteroids yourself, we’ve outlined the clues we’re aware of below. If you aren’t interested in sleuthing for clues, our Complete Golden Eggsteroids Guide is available as a shortcut. Okay, on to the clues we know exist so far:
- One hint is available by participating in MTV’s “A THIN LINE” campaign, which we wrote about a few days ago.
- Several hints will available via Walmart, both by their Facebook page and by physical Angry Birds Space merchandise. Supposedly their Facebook Page will be updated with a clue today. But that’s not all. Per this USA Today article, “three more clues will be hidden in a new line of limited-edition plush toys, T-shirts and candy that the retailer will begin selling on Sunday. The 5- and 8-inch plush birds ($9.97 and $14.97, respectively), $6.97 T-shirt and Space Fruit Snacks ($2.18) could have clues on the price tag, in the packaging or within the shirts.”
- Furthermore, T-Mobile stores within Walmart will offer a free level to those who buy an Android smartphone. We’re not sure at this time if this is an exclusive level or some type of unlock.
Lastly, I should also add that all Samsung users have access to a bonus Golden Eggsteroid. Since it’s not available for everyone it’s not included on our leaderboard.

Just noticed something when using one of the ‘free’ eagles I ‘earned’ – if you let the sardine can sit too long in the slingshot after the pigs are popped, the level ends without letting you fire the can! I lost an eagle that way and I would be furious if I had paid for it. As it was, I spent 10 whole eagles on one level and still didn’t get a feather. No way in **** am I paying for any of them.

Just wondering, such a nice game very reasonible price. Then some extras, really, is it too expensive to get 980 eagle shots with 20$?

I like more this “multi eagle” in one level with small payment, than unlimited eagles with single pay. Now I need to think more carefully, where to put sardine can.
Yes it’s too expensive Sattanen. This is corporate greed and it’s grossly insulting. Rovio has experienced great financial success with the $1 app and $1 eagle feather “addon”. There was no reason for this change except for greed.
I hate this system of the might eagle i would pay maybe $50 or more for unlimited use but not this

From what I’ve seen with 16 free eagles is that the space eagle is going to be a money sink unless you’re an excellent eagle player. I’m not one of those so can’t get excited about this spending model.
And yes, I consider $20 for 980 eagles to be too much. I would pay $20 for unlimited use, though. I would also pay more for the game itself – I have no problem with Rovio making money, but I do think pay per use eagles have crossed the line into greed.

I gotta agree with you there… I even wrote an email to them, basically saying that I didn’t purchase this game, about which i was excited, because of the clear greed motivating this move. Their model was wildly successful, and plenty profitable…
I mean, you can get more people into the franchise by the previous model, which equates to purchase of other merchandise and a huge automatic audience for all their future projects… but charging for eagles and for levels in the game is going to drive fans away… Think it will be the beginning of the end?

Perfectly normal.The pigs are more interactive in this one,so they have different actions.Asleep probably means you’ve been inactive in the game.

I don’t think there are more than 5. On the eggsteroids screen it says #/15. # is however many stars you have. If there were six egges, it would say 18 rather than 15.
Actually,there is a 6th egg,It’s unlocked by playing on a Samsung Galaxy tablet.
Darn, I don’t like it when different devices with the same OS have different versions of the game just because they are made by a different company. I suppose Samsung paid big bucks for that.

When you start the game, it says activation or something. Click that, and enter your code.
I did that to activate & now it’s gone when i load the game

I have a question though – how does Market/Play know what device you have? And could you fool it by saying you had a different device to the one you actually have? Just a thought.
don’t think you can trick the market/play from reading your device, since you register with your google account and google owns android so it’s probably impossible to change your device id. If you root and load a custom ROM, maybe you can change your device id, since I know you can if you want to tether your laptop etc, but probably more trouble than it’s worth.
I play on the nexus s and danger zone is unlocked here, too.
Since Samsung partnered with Rovio,Samsung Galaxy users get the danger zone free.

Wow, it worked, I posted that, and finally got all the pigs. Only one star though.
Any advice? I’m on that one now.
To pass it is fine, but I’ve only been able to get two stars so far!
I had to stop to make dinner, so I haven’t tried it again. It was really difficult to get even one star!
I used redbird CCW to knock over the tower in the bottom circle, which most times would also explode TNT when falling, at the same time killing those two pigs. Then, I used purple bird from below to hit the two birds in the upper circle, but could never get the third pig at the same time. Then used red bird clock wise to kill the last pig in the big circle.
It was difficult to get them all, and only gave me one star.
Don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, but there is a 6th Eroid.
E-6 is available *WITHOUT* being unlocked, it’s just there. I think it is for Samsung users only though. I have the Google Nexus S (i9020).
When you go into Eroids, right in the centre of the screen is a picture of a phone (Galaxy Note I think) with a stylus and 2 orbital rings.
Once in, under the launch platform is a screen with the message “Angry Birds Launch Partner Galaxy Note!”

In the Eggsteroids screen it isn’t a planet, it is a phone with 2 orbital rings. in the pause menu it is listed in the top left as E-6.
I’ll try and get some screenies if I can work out how.

If anyone knows of an android app that will take screenshots, please let me know. I just installed 4.0.4 on my nexus s 4g, rooted. I can’t get an app that actually works each time :).

I have a question to anyone:
I know of angry birds because my boyfriend plays the original and I played atleast twice but I downloaded the angry birds space and loved it. But how do you get 3 perfect stars on some levels? I know one way is to kill all the pigs with 1 turn/bird but I’m currently on the second world and I did the first level perfect but only gained 1 star for it
There is a predetermined score necessary.
Does it say the predetermined score your suppose to reach? Or is a just wing it sorta thing and is there special tricks/ tips your suppose to handle the birds to get higher points

Look at the top of the front screen on this site & you will see “Three Star Walkthroughs”. I don’t think there are any up yet for Space because it just came out today & this site is player-created & not affiliated with Rovio. The players that have the technical know-how haven’t had time to make videos yet. This is a good chance for me to thank those players for all the help they’ve given me!
The best tip is try, try again. Destroy as much stuff as you can with as few birds as possible. That’s how you get the big points that will get you three stars. Have fun. :)

I think the episode 1 score addict acheivement is glitched I was playing Danger Zone when I got it and my episode 1 score isn’t near the score addict amount

WOW, What fun!! Love the anti-gravity. BUT, as usual . . . Got a question: The EAGLE is available to everyone EXCEPT us PC’ers. And now, even with the new Space Game, if you look in the AB files, there’s an EAGLE. He’s kinda dark. BUT not for the PC!!
Will the eagle EVER be available for computers [is it available for the MAC]? And if not, why not. If so, when? The game was only $6, ya can’t beat that, but no eagle.

What’s not true? I was able to use the eagle on the Internet [Flash app.] on AB’s facebook page. But can’t use it in any of the PC computer games. The eagle is available for some smart phones, but not the PC. If it is, could you tell me how I can get the eagle for my computer?
The Mighty Eagle is ONLY available on a small number of platforms. PC has not been victimized.

I have posted earlier today that Android OS users have been alienated, small pun on AB Space.
We do NOT get the infamous Mighty Eagle or many other bonuses, and may not even get Danger Zone. Premature to say on DZ, but we did NOT get Surf and Turf either, which had been previously only available online.
iOS gets all the perks, except for Samsung Note on AB Space. I will write Rovio, as it doesn’t seem to be very fair; BUT I still like all releases of Angry Birds.
Also, I did NOT see an update of AB Space on Google Play Android Marketplace as of 11:00 pm Eastern time.
Ain’t that the way it is . . . Whoever has thee most money to pay for sponsorship / advertising etc. [PR] gets the perks. Many funny youtube videos w/AB are sponsorships from Iphones, Samsung & Bing [browser competing w/Google]. Sad but true. Money talks . . . .

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the boss levels in AB space. I hated the first two in Rio with a deep abiding passion and was just ‘meh’ on the rest so I wasn’t thrilled when I heard about the ones in AB space. But instead I had great fun with them. I love the catchy tune and to me they fall in a pleasant not-too-hard/not-too-easy “just-right” zone.
I agree about the boss levels. I hated all except the last one on Rio, but the ones in Space are fun.

You can found it on 1-9. !! 11 Episode 1 Level #9 if you are playing on iPod , or iPhone you ned to to zoom other wise you can’t see it is located down on the screen , easy to see it .Good lock if you found it.!!
Also, 1-20 & 2-13. For those who haven’t recognized the eggsteroids yet, It’s a “glistening” sparkle. Shoot it and it will open the Eggsteroids for you to play.
Went to Walmart yesterday and bought some spacy stuffies and other goodies. On the tags [ALL of them] is the same number to unlock another eggsteroid. That # is the one “1-20” got the other one from walmart’s FB page. Basically, just look for the glistening glitering yellow sparkle. Dats wun a dem eggy thangs!
I live in a small community and they didn’t have BIG Green Bro Bird who is the only one with a real name, “Terence.” Man, really wanted him, what a stud muffins [LOL].
Anyway, love the new game really a charmer. The Danger Zone is way cool, not as hard as they predicted.

And here I thought previous levels from other AB episodes were challenging! AB Space is definitely a game worth having, and playing. Some levels are super easy 3 star… while others leaving you guessing as to how you’re going to even finish the level, much less get 3 stars!

(ABNest note: “PC: $5.95, same price as the other Angry Birds apps in the past.” Actually, the other games are $4.95, and still are.. but I gotta say to all, the extra dollar makes little difference when it comes to game experience… this blows all the other AB versions… well, clean out into space!)

Green and White would be hard to use.I can only imagine the green bird orbiting a planet forever…
Obviously they would have revamped powers so that you can use them in space.
I can already picture this:
Green bird could be White with a purple mask.
White bird could be Orange with a fancy red superhero-type outfit.
And, if possible:
Orange bird could be green with superhero-type outfit AND mask.
Now for possible abilities:
Green bird could boost forward like Yellow bird, then it boomerangs to the nearest pig.
White bird could drop an egg bomb that when explodes, opens a void that sucks in small piggies and small pieces of debris, though it can only suck in 2 piggies and 4 debris pieces.
Orange bird could, well, inflate, because that could still work.
for who uses not-samsung-galaxy android devices, we have to wait for the danger zone? or it won’t be avaliable?
I don’t know – as they are pushing as in app purchase which are still unavailable to Android users :(
I also have a question – being a Samsung user I get it free for 3 months – does that mean they are only available to download for 3 months – or will be locked after 3 months (I am hoping the former and not the latter).
Come on Rovio – pull your finger out and lets us Android users PAY YOU MONEY so we can be add free, have the eagle and all other in app purchases.

Yes, it is free on Samsung Devices (Android) – but Android also do not support in-app purchasing yet. So unless they release it to Android for free I can’t see it coming to other Android devices.
The Amazon App Store is the only place to buy an add-free version of AB – but you only use that if you have a USA Amazon Account a they are not allowing non-US access at the moment. If DZ is going to be available to Android as a purchase, until they sort out in-app purchasing Amazon will probably be the only place to get it from.
That is not true, Bond. Android Market has “Angry Birds Space Premium” which is ad-free.

I read about this new pig called the ‘fat pig’ and I want to know which level he first appears in. Is it in a level in Cold Cuts?
You can see him in one level of Cold Cuts in a planet, but he doesn’t do anything, he’s frozen. Seems like we have to wait for updates :)

I found out, he is frozen in the planet in level 2-20.
He’s not, the Space King is still the boss.
