Earlier today Nickelodeon aired an animated short called, “Angry Birds Space Origins”, which tells the story about how the Angry Birds came to find themselves in space. It’s definitely worth watching. For those who can’t see the video above be sure to read the full story below, which appears on page 7 of the National Geographic Angry Birds Space Book: A Furious Flight into the Final Frontier. A big thanks to Peter Vesterbacka of Rovio for allowing us to republish this story.
A quick note, I was NOT asked to plug this book, but it really is neat. First off, as you’d expect from such talented people, it’s gorgeous. But this book has brains to back up its beauty. It’s 158 pages broken into four chapters. It’s full of information on space and is filled with amazing facts, anecdotes, and stories that both adults and kids will find interesting. For example, did you know that, “Almost all of the solar systems mass — 99.8% — is found in the sun?”
Now on to the story of how the Angry Birds found themselves locked in a intergalactic battle…
On a remote island lives a group of Angry Birds who share a common purpose: to stop green pigs from stealing and devouring their eggs. One faithful afternoon after the pigs absconded to their fortress with stolen eggs, the birds attacked, saving the eggs and demolishing the stronghold. Then, a huge vortex opened up in the sky. Out of the hole flew a strange bird shaped like an ice cube. With him was a glowing egg. Clearly they were not from this world!
As the birds and pigs stared skyward, a huge metallic arm emerged from the vortex, snatched the glowing egg, and retreated into the darkness. Evil laughter echoed over the island. The alien bird chased them back into the wormhole, which began to close. As the vortex shrank, the Angry Birds noticed that their eggs were too gone! Without a moment’s hesitation they flung themselves into the wormhole just before it shut. At the end of the swirling space tunnel, the Angry Bids found themselves dressed like superheroes on a strange new planet. They saw strange piggies escaping farther into space with their eggs.
From Mercury to the Milky Way, space holds an infinite number of hiding places for the piggies. How will the Angry Birds ever save their precious eggs? By learning all they can about space in order to track down the alien pigs and rescue their eggs. Follow the Angry Birds on their latest adventure as they make new friends and gather “Space Data” and amazing “Astrofacts” about planets, stars, space exploration, galaxies, and the worlds beyond, in a daring rescue mission that will take them across the galaxy. Only then will they be able to take on the pigs, retrieve their eggs, and head back home.
So there you have it. If you were not lucky enough to catch the animated short today or don’t have cable, you can now consider yourself in-the-know.
Just a few more hours now…
I am downloading angry birds space right now!
My (itunes) app store isn’t showing it!!! :,,(
I can see it on the US AppStore, but not the in UK yet?
LOL I can’t see it in the US. Maybe to much traffic so it’s slow/lagging a bit
I have my itunes on my PC set to US (for some reason!) and its showing about 10-15 apps down currently, priced at $0.99 :)
I can’t See it in the iOS AppStore!
i see it. you enter angry birds space into the search, then scroll down until you see the app. I know it is the real thing because it is from Rovio Mobile Ltd.
umm where ur download from? cuz here has not update w angry birds space to supermad_blueird
Is it out for ios yet???
Yes it is search angry birds space on the iOS AppStore and scroll down a bit then it should be there :)
Has anyone gotten the app on Android yet?
Nope…cant find on Android. Such a disappointment. Once again, we android users have to wait for new app even though all devices were supposed to be released at same time. :(
I thought us was supposed to be global, but UK hadn’t got in AppStore either yet. Is available on PC though, but thats more money!
It’s on Amazon already.
I did find on Amazon. Thanks slim. I was looking on Android market. Got to download mine and my moms (lol) before I can go to sleep.
This Game is COOL! Very good sounds!
I agree, quite often I mute the game (usually doing something else while playing)but these sounds are cool, I may keep them on most of the time.
Can’t download on an iPod touch second gen.. That’s disappointing. Rovio have just lost a long term customer there!
You wouldn’t like it if you could. My 4th generation crashes like hell on this app so far. I can’t imagine what a 2nd gen would do. Frustrating.
Ha ha, I find this comment comical. The app isn’t designed for 2nd gen iPods PERIOD. Not that hard to swallow- that ish is old.
Well, some of us actually look after the things we have and don’t need to buy a new device every couple of years to keep up with the masses. Rovio could have easily made it compatible, but in doing so have undoubtedly lost some formerly loyal customers.
What does looking after your things have to do with it? I still look after my typewriter but don’t get upset when the Internet doesn’t work on it LOL.
If you want to play Angry Birds Space bad enough, you’ll find a way. They released it on what, 10 different platforms? INCLUDING being compatible with about 5 different versions of iPods an iPhones.
I’d say they won’t be losing any customers at all, but gaining hundreds of thousands of NEW customers.
They are on the front of National Geographic, you are complaining about your old iPod not being as advanced as a newer one…seems like they are winning THAT battle ha ha.
Looking after my things means I don’t need to waste money on a new device to play a 69p app. It’s pointless.
And sure, they released it on plenty of platforms, namely touchscreen devices and computer devices. The PC version is much more expensive and I can’t stand playing with a mouse/touchpad, and I’m not gonna pay over the odds to get a compatible touchscreen device just to play this game.
I don’t care if Rovio do get hundreds of thousands of new customers, I’m just sticking by my own principles and not being bullied by companies to spend more money than others do for the same product.
Now please stop pointlessly arguing with me; at the end of the day it’s my opinion so you can stop trolling and telling me that my opinion is wrong, you just look like an idiot.
It’s not a pointless argument- if it were you and I wouldn’t feel so passionate about it. I’m not saying you are wrong, you bring up valid points. BUT if you have an older device that the game CANNOT work on- that’s nobody’s fault. You have an older device that CAN’T play the game. That is not Rovio’s fault and to say ‘I’m gonna be immature and stop supporting Rovio because I have an older device’ is like saying ‘I refused to upgrade my browser’ or I refuse to update my OS’ or ‘i refuse to update the new levels on Angry Birds Seasons’. It’s just dumb, technology advances – and proof of that is in your hand! Why’d you buy an iPod in the FIRST place if you don’t support advancing technologies? You COULD just stick with you calculator, but I bet the iPod is more fun- and that’s the point.
You too make good points now. I’m not immaturely saying I no longer support Rovio, I was just commenting that I was disappointed that I could not get the game. I don’t want it enough to try that hard to get it, but it would have been a nice thing to have.
I guess you are right in that technology advances, but to compare a game SIMILAR to one I have being released on a device SIMILAR to the one I have to upgrading from a calculator to an iPod is a ridiculous argument. Except for graphics, my iPod can do about 95% of what a new one can do, so it’s not like I’m that far out of the loop, and that’s where the disappointment lies.
I sympathize with you. When future AngryBirds games come out i hope they make more games compatible.
Its not released in UK yet!
So is any1 from the UK got it yet??
Finally! Downloading now
Pop bubbles in credits!
Try searching for Rovio, on the iOS App Store, thats the only way I could get to it… A direct search didn’t work.
If your search for Rovio doesn’t work, then search for Angry Birds, Find any version, then tap on “developer page”. Out of 16 possible apps by Rovio for iPad, Angry Birds Space HD was about 14th down… So scroll through all Rovio apps. Should be there..
Just got it. Thanks
I have a PC and I looked in data folder, and there WILL be a mighty eagle!
I wonder what Mighty eagle can do in space.
But I wanna see white, green and orange birds getting into space before Me.
The mighty eagle is now a black hole where a bunch of eagles come out of the black hole ; )
Actually,it’s still just the one.And the angle makes it weaker. But although it has a different name,it just looks darker.Maybe it got a tan in Rio?
Angry Birds Space is here for iso android pc mac
The mighty eagle will come to angry birds space. There is an achievement for it
For some reason, the eagle is not bought, but earned
Our friend the ME is earned, but you can’t get enough to earn all feathers for free.If you go to the main screen, there is a button showing how many eagles you have.If you tap it,you can buy eagles.Happy Flinging!
Is anyone else having a problem with the app crashing a lot? I have the iOS version (iPod Touch, 4th gen) and it crashes constantly. I can’t pause the game. Crashes every time. Crashes mid-game sometimes too. And the reload takes forever. Kinda frustrating, although the game is fun so far!
It’s probably your iPod- how much stuff do you have on it? How many apps do you have running at the same time? Have you restarted it? Updated the OS? Do some troubleshooting before freaking out.
I’m arguing with some people.
Because of this.
Is the lazer bird new?
No,it’s a old,good yelow bird!:)
not exactly cuz the yellow bird goes in a straight line while the lazer bird can go where you want it too.
Both true and not. The Lazer bird is indeed the Yellow bird, but it’s ability has been changed slightly due to wormhole travel.
It looks like the link to the video is broken.
If you didn’t know 99% of the solar systems mass is in the sun, then you should go back to 1st grade…sorry but that should be the commonest of knowledge in 2012. Jeez we aren’t living in the 1500s.
Hmmmmm u should reply to a comment to make sense
I’m replying to the article smarty pants
OH yeah now I complete my collections of angry birds.
Me too. Space FTW!
its already out but i have not downloaded it
will danger zone be eventually released for android? (except the samsung devices that already have it)
Awesome…
Angry Birds Space Origins is playing again today at 10:30 EST. Does anyone know if it’s going to be a repeat or a new thing?
Go to screen 2 of Cold Cuts. Click or tap the frozen asteroid on the kind-of far left of the pigs. Click or tap it again to make more go towards the pigs. Eventually, if you do it right, one or both of the pigs will get popped! By the way, the pigs are a mustachioed and a standard and they’re not in bubbles. It’s very hard to do. I finally managed to pop the mustachioed one.
Yes, we noted this in the release post.
Any clues as to rest of story? How do the original ABs decide to team with ice bird? I still don’t have my pre-ordered copy of the book : ((((
Be COOL Ice Bird, the Angry Birds are not going to steal your eggsteroid
Hehe! When I look this vid. i cant believe that this is orange bird!!!:D:)
Its not the orange bird at all
I think that too!
what? that not make sense…
Second that.
WHAT’s GOING ON!?!?!?!?!?!?
They’re so lucky to breathe in Space!
hahaha
