Rovio has adopted a new tradition of updating the original Angry Birds annually on December 11th to celebrate the birthday of entertainment’s best-selling app of all time. And this year is now exception! Angry Birds v4.0.0 is now available for iOS, Mac, and Android via Google Play. The update should be available for more platforms soon.
The update features a bit of a change to the Birdday Party episode, so please take note.
The numbering in this episode has changed (actually, it changed in the Short Fuse update, but it’s of more consequence now). Originally, levels were numbered 18-x and 19-x. Rovio has switched to a different labeling system since they seem to be planning to continue this annual tradition in the future. The new labeling is Cake 2 Level x (previously Chapter 18), Cake 3 Level x (previously 19), and now…
This update includes:
- 15 new levels in Birdday Party! These are labeled as Cake 4 Level x to mark the 4th birthday of Angry Birds. Note that the chapters are listed reverse-chronologically. We will be updating our leaderboards and walkthroughs to reflect the name changes soon. Our walkthroughs for the new levels are live.
- Any Golden Eggs? We didn’t find any, but keep your eyes peeled. Each chapter of Birdday Party has had one before now.
- No new achievements for iOS, since ABo is nearly full in GameCenter.
- Still no on-screen distinction between Power Up and “clean” scores, besides the lightning bolt that appears on the Level Completed screen. But thankfully the data files distinguish.
- Helpful Tip: If you are experiencing any issues with a level not completing promptly, there is a “Fast Forward” button that appears in the bottom-right corner once all pigs have been popped. This will force the level to end, tally your extra birds, and show you your final score. While not a new feature, it can still be helpful!
Happy Birthday BirdLeader!
Of course, we are all thankful for Rovio’s heavy stream of levels recently. Both the staff and community here at AngryBirdsNest appreciates all that Rovio does for us.
And in the ultimate coincidence, the anniversary of Angry Birds aligns perfectly with the real-life birthday of our Commander in Beak! So join me in wishing our very own @BirdLeader an extremely HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
For those who don’t know, BL will be celebrating his 75th birthday. He enjoys long walks on the beach with his walker, buying new tennis balls for the legs of his walker, and denture cream. (I kid of course. But as the baby of the staff, I get to have some fun at his expense. Thanks for everything BL!)

Happy 4th to Angry Birds, and happy 75th to @birdleader and the @hungergames! I love the new birdday party levels. Angry birds go is great too, except it keeps crashing.
My first non-forum page change! :^O

@amslimfordy, Every time I click on the previous page comments, it shows only one comment for this article and for the article on Angry Birds Go! being released and am wondering if there’s an issue with the link. (I’m on a PC if that helps)
I’m sorry GBird I don’t quite understand. I think you’re referring to this page? (https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/angry-birds-turns-4-celebrate-with-15-new-levels-in-birdday-party/comment-page-1/#comments) but it looks OK by me.
Every time I click on it, it only shows 1 comment (typically the first one). The other comments don’t show up.
Apparently now it works but for a couple days, every time I clicked on the Page 1 (or back arrow to view the comments on page 1) it was only showing the first comment. Even on the top of the article where it states how many comments there are it said “One Comment”.
@amslimfordy, Just checked it again, it is doing it again (showing only one comment on page 1 of the comments page) on multiple computers that I tried it on. Could it be Internet Explorer 11 not showing the page correctly? It works sometimes but other times it doesn’t work.
With this update, my Short Fuse scores have gone away, so I have to start over on that.
Also, you have to swipe right rather than left to get to new Birdday levels.
Does anyone else find it seriously annoying that Rovio has decided to force us with a popup after ever five or six rounds with the “Stuck, but a shock bird” No, showing it to me over and over again won’t change me mind about it. When I dismiss it, it should be outright, not temporary. It’s bad enough they cram my phone full of their ad ad serving software, which slows the game to a crawl, but now this monstrosity keep me from playing in flight mode, since the X next to red bird phoning home does NOT dismiss the failed connection and a full restart of the phone is required to make it stop.
I can accept the fact the only way to play the game without lag is to go into flight mode, but this popup for Shockbird ever few turns HAS to go, or make it an option I can turn off.
@kprovance You can turn them off by turning off power-ups (lightning bolt button in the gear button menu).
The “Power Up Pop Ups” are one of the worst things ever added to these games. They are even worst in Rio. They come up twice as often and there isn’t anyway to turn them off.
