Alright, details are sparse at the moment, but Rovio is definitely planning something. Sometime during the night the Pigs formed themselves a union and decided they needed to go public (you can see their press release below). In addition to the press release, those portly pigs have launched their own Facebook and Twitter accounts. So what’s going on? My guess is this will eventually end up with a brand new game, but that’s just me. Whatcha thinkin?! Yu likez? Share your insightful thoughts and opinions below.
New Details!
Rovio has confirmed via their September 4th press release that “Bad Piggies” is indeed a NEW app. It will be launching on iOS, Android, and Mac on September 27th, with other platforms (Windows Phone, Windows 8, and PC listed specifically) “following shortly”. It’s also notable that in the press release they say that there is, “not a slingshot in sight!”
We also dug up some additional game play details from an exclusive look that Fast Company author J.J. McCorvey (why don’t we get these?!) received:
- It sounds like the same pick of play appeal of Angry Birds will be present in Bad Piggies, yet the game play might be more similar to Amazing Alex. “”There’s not much intense thinking required: An intuitive interface guides the player in assembling the vehicle, and if it crashes before collecting all three stars, the player is taken right back to the start screen.”
- Those pesky pigs just can’t get enough eggs! “The swine are stranded on a desert island and have to build vehicles and contraptions to make their way to the delicious eggs that they can’t seem to get enough of. Though there is a three-star mechanic at work, there are no birds in sight, and the pigs are bouncy, jovial, and downright likable–a far cry from the snorting, antagonizing characters from the Angry Birds installments.”

Very excited. I wrote before that in order for a Pig game to take off we would need to “get to know” the pigs better. They need to have personalities. Looks like this is the first step in doing that.

We don’t have enough information about the platform. But I think it’s fair to assume/speculate that such an important release will be an app.

I hope so! Mayby this pigture of thinking pig was a commersiall of bad piggies. I think than this will be something like that:

Interesting to see how this turns out! I misread the facebook & twitter messages at first; thought they said “Pigs hate facebook / twitter!” Was wondering how that would go over with FB & twitter???
Going to be hard to like pigs if their english is that bad. Guess I should pretend their native language is pigish, so they don’t speak / spell english all that well. I’m very tolerant of people who are trying to write / speak in english as their second language, but I’ve been called the grammar police for my intolerance of mistakes made by native english speakers.
Is it Rovio Entertainment that have made this fb page or is it just fan-made?

Rovio said they will release 5 new games this year.These are the released 1.Angry Birds Facebook(now AB Friends) 2.Angry Birds Space 3.Amazing Alex.Two more to go.

I think that there will be Birds VS Pigs! Birds try to destroy a fort of pigs and pigs try to destroy a fort of eggs! (With turns and unlimited pigs/birds)

A series with five parts is a pentalogy. E.g., the Torah (also called the Pentateuch) is a pentalogy.
Though currently Angry Birds is only a tetralogy. We dont know at this time how major this “app” will be. Or if it’s even an app!

Think of the ways a pig could retaliate by organizing and getting on Facebook and Twitter:
1. Refuse to go away after being hit by a bird or debris
2. Going after the birds first
3. Not showing up for the games unless something is done by the player
4. Showing up but not participating when a bird is flung
5. Getting the public to let Rovio know they want a game where the pigs win and the birds die
6. Coming up with the Mighty Swine instead of or to fight the Mighty Eagle
7. Pigs getting Power Ups to resist the attacks by a single bird, we would have to fling the birds two at a time
8. Maybe a whole new app game called Angry Pigs where the pigs go after their enemy
9. Or maybe a mutant pig is being developed for the “Coming Soon” levels of the Red Planet
Just some random, non logical, irrational and fun thoughts about a new app, hopefully
If there ever was “I Wanna Be the Bird”, that’d be very likely to happen. Other than birds randomly dying in mid air.

Maybe this is just lead up to the rumored TV show that is forthcoming, and not a new app? Would explain the curtain they are hiding behind. I would love to see a new app, but this is an equally likely scenario.

I completely missed the tease until just now:
“We haz new” and the paint trails off, then they have to go.
I am thinking “We haz new game” or something similar would have been the rest of that sentence..
Maybe the birds are found the pigs wrote it so they cut off the sentence and they go . . .

The game will probably be called Bad Piggies. Angry Birds is a similar name. the Piggies are bad and the Birds are Angry. Simple enough

Apparently, on their Facebook page, their category is “Games/Toys”. Does this mean that they will make toys to backup this new game as well, since the birds have their own toys already?
It’s a generic choice of category.
There are already BP toys. Lots of plushes and special items like the King Pig bonus level activator thing for iPad.

They shouldn’t tease anything. Just announce a chock release. But it is too late and now I’m in hysterics refreshing this page to see if the game is suddenly out. I called on sick just in case it’s today and I’ll do so til my dreams come true
Rovio usually announces that it’s a game officially and gives a set date before releasing it ;)
Wha? Rovio never announces dates. The closest to an announcement for Red Planet was “this fall”
