Bad Piggies Road Hogs Level R-5 requires a time of under 40 seconds to earn 3 stars, or 50 seconds to earn 2 stars. The Road Hogs levels are pure time trials and, in general, are very challenging. Our contraption features two turbo engines, two helicopter planes, and two airplane propellers. Perhaps the best advice here is to plan out your route carefully beforehand. We keep far-left at the very beginning of the level, and then take the long drop to the very bottom path about half way through.
If you have a different strategy for completing this level feel free to leave a comment below.
I know it may sound strange, but I got my best score, with inspiration from @mvnla2, by slowing down on the ramp before the straight fall in the middle of the level. Making sure to toggle the upwards facing poropellers which will automatically make you travel rightwards. This makes it so there is no high-speed, confusing toggling, that you have a 75% chance of failing from. This is a much easier strategy that produced my high score, again, thanks, @mvnla2, however I am not sure if it will produce the best scores in the long run???
Enjoy;)
@AngerManagement — Thanks! Glad I was able to inspire you to figure out how to get 3* and explain it to me, so I can try again.
@AngerManagement — I think your more detailed explanation is even better, so here it is:
AngerManagement said, “So I assume by following the walkthrough, you mean that, before the straight fall, you go full speed then slow right down. This is what I did the first time, but then I slow right down (turned off the rightwards facing propeller) at the start of the slope before the fall. Then you turn the upwards facing propellers off and on (so you don’t hit the roof) and you automatically travel rightwards (towards the fall).”
I checked the video this morning to see if I’d missed what they did, but this makes it clear that I didn’t and your suggestion is different from the video.
So it’s back to the cave for me.
@AngerManagement — Well, I got 40.31 in ten minutes of trying, but I also started with 2 silver engines for practice. Will let you know when I get rid of that last 0.3.
Thanks! I think this really works. Previous to following you advice, the best I did was slightly over 50 sec.
Ug, know you will do it, @mvnla2, glad I inspired you as you did to me;)
@Admins — is it just my imagination, or has the checkbox for alternate strategy disappeared?

I don’t see the “Strat” marker in the Comments Admin either.
Finally got 39.43 secs with the following build:
Top row: all empty
Second Row: [empty]-[empty]-[Big prop]-[empty]-[empty]
Third row: [small prop]-[steel box with piggy]-[empty steel box]- [steel box with big engine]- [small prop]
fourth row: [empty]-[small wheel]-[empty]-[small wheel]-[empty]
I tried it without the wheels but it kept crashing and breaking up. The wheels helped stop this.
This contraption is pretty resilient and can take a bit of a bashing.
Thank you so much. This configuration is giving me the best results. Easier to control for me.
Thank you- I tried the one with the sand bag- didn’t work. Yours did.
In the video the two propellers are overlapping each other, which causes one to pop up slightly. Does anybody know if that affects the gameplay?
This is most difficult Road Hog level, I could not do this from above video:-(
I could not complete this level with above strategy. I done R-5 level with my own idea in 36.73 sec. My strategy – http://angrybir.de/YrS8tG
@amandeep where and when you drop sandbag?
@cosmo2503 I did not drop it. It was just for some weight,so propeller will not hit the roof.
O.K. I noticed it is easier to keep balance with that bag, thanks, I’ll try it.
@cosmo2503 Okay, try it. I hope you will do it with less than 40 sec.
Finally did it. Used the gray engines, the tiny wheels and the single prop on top. The big engines were too fast for me. I can’t toggle very well. Finally got 35 seconds on this one. Now my Road Hogs is complete. Thank you to everyone who shared their strats and to those who worked on the walkthroughs. I took a little advice here and there and finally finished.
Thanks for the tip, got 40.00 (and 3 stars) easily with this strategy. I find it very hard to toggle with PC touchpad (no touchscreen) but with this “slower” machine it was doable.
+1, this is definitely the way to beat this
it’s easier to get three stars if you build another row of empty boxes on top of the three shown in the walkthrough. The contraption flies a little slower but is easier to control.
Thanks a lot. The first contraption I made didn’t even lift the pig of the ground.
I did the same as in the video but added two rockets in the middle to help go left at the end. Set them of when you are level with the goal and make sure you turn off the rotors or you will go up into the ceiling.
Although I wasn’t able to get as quick of a time I found it slightly easier to have a grey engine on the left side so that the right side is weighed down slightly and it moves right easier.
Another easy, fast one. Took me 3 tries to get 34 sec.
X, Plane Prop, X
Prop, Metal Box w/pig, Prop
X, Metal Box w/ Turbo engine or belt engine, X
X, Small metal wheel, X

It’s pretty stable. You fly right up, Left prop, right prop, Toggle helicopter prop, drop, trigger helicopter prop & right prop, left prop, done. The small wheel lets you roll down the top ramp a bit.
