Good morning and happy Monday to all the devoted (obsessed?) flingers out there! We are greeted this morning to a very rare Monday update, as part of Rovio’s countdown to the launch of Angry Birds Star Wars II. That’s in three days, not that anyone’s counting.
We announced last week that the mixed-reception episode Red’s Mighty Feathers would be receiving an update, and it’s landed today! Angry Birds v3.3.0 is now available for iOS, PC, Mac, and Android via Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.
Attention PC Users: Angry Birds has been updated and now requires OpenGL 2.0 and DirectX 11. The OpenGL requirement was actually a BUG and has been fixed in v3.3.3. For more information, see Rovio’s FAQ page explaining OpenGL.
This update includes:
- 15 new levels of Red’s Mighty Feathers! The episode has been adjusted to be the ninth sequential episode, and the new levels are numbered 23-1 through 23-15. Note that you need NOT pass the initial 15 “Egg Defender” levels to access the new levels in this update. Egg Defender levels are listed as non-sequential. Our walkthroughs are live!
- Red’s homing ability has been tweaked so that it is manual aiming, similar to the Lazer Bird in Angry Birds Space. This applies exclusively toward Red’s Mighty Feathers, including the Egg Defender levels.
- Restart Battle Button! In the Egg Defender levels, a new button has been added to the Pause screen that looks like a green flag. This allows you to restart your battle against the current piggy contraption, instead of restarting the entire level from wave 1.
- New Golden Eggs! Keep your eyes open! Rovio has added a 3-star Golden Egg and the first hidden Golden Egg in 9 months!!! Our complete guide is now up-to-date.
- No new achievements for iOS, since ABo is full in GameCenter.
- Still no distinction between Power Up and “clean” scores, besides the lightning bolt that appears on the Level Completed screen.
- Helpful Tip: If you are experiencing any issues with a level not completing promptly, there is a “Fast Forward” button that appears in the bottom-right corner once all pigs have been popped. This will force the level to end, tally your extra birds, and show you your final score. While not a new feature, it can still be helpful!
It’s also worthwhile to note that the next ABo update will be coming in November according to Rovio’s blog.

- PC users experiencing errors with OpenGL or DirectX should refer to our statement at the top of this page and/or contact Rovio for additional information.
This Golden Egg has been moved, but is indeed obtainable. See our updated walkthrough for GE-8 for details.
I suffered this bug on iPad, unfortunately. Rovio has responded, saying that the bug effects users who 3-starred all Egg Defender levels prior to v3.3.0. They are working on a fix as we speak.

@amslimfordy: Will you make a badge for those who got 45 stars in RMF before this update?
@chriss Can you elaborate on the proposed badge? I’m not sure I follow.
With this update it is much easier to get 3 stars in the Egg Defender levels, because of the flags and because you can aim wherever you want, not only on pigs.
Sometimes you make badges for people who got something in a previous version before Rovio made the levels easier.
Ah, I see what you mean. Unfortunately, there would be no proof that someone had beat any given level prior to today’s update.
They can make a screenshot before updating. That’s what I did. So at least me I could prove it. :-)
True, but that might not be fair to everyone. Sorry.
Then why did you make a badge for Seasons Greeding 1-16 Feather? This was EXACTLY the same situation.
I always said it was not fair. So at least now you agree with me that it was not fair.
(1) The SG-16 glitch existed for a long time. This existed for 1.5-2 months.
(2) The SG-16 badge was only awarded during times when the glitch was active — namely these many months. Once the glitch was fixed, the badge was closed.
This time you are wrong, Slim.
(1) is not true. The “glith” (was it really a glitch?) existed only till the next update of AB Seasons, and not for 1 year. The Mighty Eagle walkthroughs were added on 08/31/2011 and the new update which lowered the treashold came on 10/20/2011, only two months later.
(2) is not true either. The badge was only created AFTER the “glitch” was fixed.
Here you can see that Bird Leader created the badge only in October 2011: https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/forum/discussion/comment/4774#Comment_4774
The physical badge was created late in October but an active list was maintained and sought during the duration of the glitch.
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/forum/discussion/427/seasons-mighty-eagle-hall-of-fame
widely viewed via the forum thread and SG-16 walkthrough.
Therefore since an active list was both maintained, widely accessible, and widely known during the glitch itself, the badge exists.
Since your proposition is after the update has passed, it’s unfair to attempt to establish such a list.
Furthermore, the challenge of 3-starring the Egg Defender levels fails in comparison to the SG-16 glitch.
@amslimfordy I think he means one for 3 staring all the Egg Defender levels before this update. Not a bad idea. Since they were so much harder than they are now but unfortunately completely impossible to confirm.
That’s odd. Chris’s second post wasn’t there when I posted that despite being posted more than half an hour ago. Weird.
I also agree
People who 3 starred all the episode before the update deserve something. But it’s true no proof now that the update is here.
@joeyba: Here is my proof:
http://angrybir.de/18rWEGB
http://angrybir.de/15zuQ6B
But anybody can copy my screenshots. So there won’t be a real proof, you are right. Okay, no badge. :-)
@Chris, I hear you:)
Look what I wrote on July 10, 12, and 20th
https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/angry-birds-reds-mighty-feathers-pro-tips-and-tricks/
But again I don’t think it’s reasonable for admins to go look on a case by case basis.
We’ll just wait for a new badge :) and we can be proud we did it before the update :)
I really like the new redo button. It makes the Egg Defender levels much easier and more enjoyable. If I had known they were going to add that I wouldn’t have bothered 3 staring them before. I didn’t before but now I hope that they make more Egg Defender levels.
Sounds like they changed the menu music again. The “vocals” seem more pig like than bird like now.
Really you think so? To me they haven’t changed from last update to this one.
After some time working on it I’m finally about to 3* the Egg Defender levels now with the flag option. Also how do you people get 3* so fast without walkthroughs! It’s crazy to me!
@arthromod — Lots of us try to get 3* without the walkthroughs. A lot of the new levels were pretty easy to 3* on the first or second try. I usually try to complete the new levels as quickly as possible, not spending too much time on 3*, and then list all the 3* scores I have to help determine the 3* minimums.
Ok, @mvnla2 , thank you for the response!
Does anyone know why the Nook platform, which uses the android o/s, doesn’t get updates from Rovio?
NOOK requires very separate development and approval processes.
Ahh ok. That’s what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info!
Thank you for much splendid update! Rovio!
Because I am still capturing ABSW, I can be always excited for coming several months!
I also 3 stared all the levels, but there was no Golden Egg no. 30. Where and when should it appear?
See the bugs above.
It sais: “Rovio notified: no”
Bug log updated with Notified=Yes, Responded=Yes, and response
I don’t see the response. Maybe it can only be seen by admins. But I guess we have to wait till the next update.
“I’ve forwarded these to the team along with your .lua -files. Unfortunately no new info yet of any possible workarounds.”
So excited about the new releases on the PC! What a huge difference it makes not to have to wait for what seems like ages for a new update to land on my favorite platform. I applaud Rovio for making so much effort to get new releases out on as many platforms as possible in a timely manner.
Now if we could just get the Star Wars ones…but I guess I’ll be busy for a while anyway!
This is a truly amazing update. Although Egg Defender Mode surely had a mixed reception, they took the opportunity and used it to make classic levels that were even better than older levels because of the new gameplay elements. Great job Rovio! :D
IMO Bird Defender mode is much improved, but still difficult.
I agree, it’s still not easy. Previously, the bird flew automatically towards the pig. Now you have to tap the small pig. Not easy if you have big fingers and are playing on an iPhone 4.
Im such a bird.. all other updates I have not had an issue..just this one ..
Did anybody notice that the new ABST2 add on the bottom on the level select screen gives us the first look at what the Battle Droid characters will look like?
Another bug: Golden Egg #7 Angry Birds Radio doesn’t play anymore. Androind platform.
Not sure what you mean. I can obtain the star in GE-7 just fine.
I can obtain the star, but the radio plays no music anymore (since the previous update where the theme song changed.)
Ah. I’m not too worried about that. Pretty minor compared to the other bugs. Thanks for the report though.
Works fine here on my PC
Hey @amslimfordy it looks like my latest PC update of ABo(v3.3.0) has did away with the facebook levels in the Ham’em High episode. Till this update there were 144 stars but now there are 135.Those levels are no more there!
Everything else works fine. Is this just on PC or other platforms too?? Please help. Thanks.
Just PC to my knowledge.
That Means we won’t be able to play that level again? That’s bad :( Those levels were fun.
I don’t know whether their removal was purposeful or an accident, or if the levels will ever be restored.
@amslimfordy @Sumit reply on facebook said it is only for mobile devices now
@Josm They are still available on Mac.
weird, or they misunderstand the question about this on facebook, it could be a bug then
@josm If It’s a bug then at least they could get them back in the November update. If it’s available on Mac then why not on PC.@amslimfordy @josm could it be due to two diffrent files being made in the program files folder as @Morph416 has explained below?
Those two issues are not related.
the 3rd/last one wasn’t, lol….. one of the hardest levels to me… or it at least took a long time to figure out how to do it
I ran across an issue with the PC version, so I’ll post it here in case anyone else runs into it, and the solution.
The installer now installs to Rovio Entertainment LTD folder, and not the usual folder Rovio, under Program Files. Unfortunately, somehow.. the installer didn’t remove the previous game files from the Rovio folder, and I had two side by side installations of ABO… even shown up that way in Programs and Features. I was wondering why I was getting “cannot find stack” errors when launching the game.
Once I found the dual install, I removed the newest first, then the oldest… removed any remaining temp folders in the User directory as well as Program Files.
Then I proceeded to install the game again, and then copied my backup files back to the User folder and it works again just fine.
Not sure why this happened, because I have two systems and it did not do this on one of them.. so, not sure if anyone else will run into it, but just in case you do!
Also having 2 folders, Rovio and Rovio LTD, didnt removed the old files as well
Same here but i let it be and the game worked fine.
Wow @Morph416, thanks so much! I had the same stack error message and had no idea what was going on. Unfortunately, I’m not what you’d call tech saavy, so didn’t even know where to start until @SnTrooper pointed me in your direction! You guys rock! Am going to give it a go and see if I can fix. Did you have to re-download the program before you restored from back-ups?
@amslimfordy: Since the gameplay is really different now and some contraptions are moving differentky (e.g. 2nd contraption in Egg Defender level 15), will you make new walkthroughs?
@chriss We can look into that, but in general I think the strategies are pretty comparable. Ill take a look at 15 though… Next week (little busy next couple days ;) yaknow)
I finnaly 3-starred red’s mighty feathers! Even if it was a headache to do it!I was really mad! I played till 01:30am of night to do it.
I just downloaded an update on my IPad for Star Wars, and when I opened classic AB, all my Mighty Feathers achievements, to include golden eggs were erased, and it said I’d been signed out of Rovio. Don’t know what to do. Warning to others…this also came after a major IPad privacy update this morning. Any suggestions?
Apple is updating their TOS for iOS 7. That should be completely unrelated to any issues with apps.
The Star Wars update for iPad was minor bug fixes. In no way will it affect any other apps.
If you’ve been logged out of your Rovio Account, simply re-enter your email and password where prompted. Your progress should be there.
Sorry for being a ditz, but I don’t even know where to re-enter this stuff into Rovio. I was only prompted one time, but don’t know how to get prompted now. And will my stuff come back into that game or will I have to play all the levels again? I would think the only way to get it back is if I did an update via I-tunes, which I did not do after that gameplay. :( It’s the only game affected of all AB platforms and levels. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Glad I entered all my scores here, even though I may have to play them all again.
No worries :) On the front screen, under the huge “Play” button, there’s a smaller button that looks like a pen & paper.
Yay! Worked like a charm and all scores came back. Phew. Thank you so much! :)
I updated to v 3.3.0 on my PC, played Red’s Mighty Feathers through to the Egg Defender level, and now it appears that I can’t scroll back to earlier levels of ANY of the Angry Birds games (Mine and Dine, etc.) Has this bug been reported already? Couldn’t find it in the list.
Perhaps try restarting your device, Annette. There shouldn’t be any issues with earlier levels, and perhaps your device is just being a little wonky at the moment. A restart should fix it.
I am having the same problem as Annette. After updating Angry Birds to 3.3.0 (and also with 3.3.2) on PC, I can open all the games but can’t scroll between levels of each game – each game only shows 15 levels. Also, when I first upgraded to 3.3.0 I started out on Red Feathers, finished the 15 levels, then went to Egg Defender but couldn’t go back to Red Feathers level. This issue remains with 3.3.2.
We’re pretty sure there are no issues with the update. Scrolling may require using the arrow buttons on-screen, as opposed to the keys on your keyboard.
The problem is that their are no scrolling arrows on-screen like there used to be. There is only the exit arrow at the bottom left. The arrows that used to be on each side of the level boxes that enabled me to move to the next 15 levels (or whatever) have disappeared. They are gone for all the games in Angry Birds original (PC) e.g. Mine and Dine, etc.
I just tried it again and found that, although the arrows to scroll left and right between levels are missing, if I use the scroll button on the mouse and move it up and down, the other levels appear.
@amslimfordy: After having installed iOS 7, I went back to Red’s Mighty Feathers and was shocked because I lost all my stars. But then I realized that I was not logged in any more to my Rovio account. This means that my RMF stars are only saved in my Rovio account, but not on my device (iPhone 4S). Do you know how I can save those stars on my device as well?
@chriss This is actually something that Rovio is looking into based on public “outcry”. It’s not necessarily a bug, since it’s by design.
The reason why logged-in data isn’t saved to your device is in case you wanted to have multiple accounts usable within a single app. Saving data to the device would overlap those accounts.
There is a way to save your Cloud data to your device, but it’s being a little sneaky. Sign out of your Rovio Account and force-close the app in the multitasking bar. Using our backup guide, save all .lua files to your computer as a “just in case”. Take the two “_hash”.lua files (settings_hash and highscores_hash) and rename them, removing the “_hash” portion. Move those files back onto your device using our guide, and it should be exactly what you requested.
(Obvious disclaimer: We at AngryBirdsNest claim no responsibility for any voiding of warranties, loss of data, etc. etc. etc. that people might get mad at us for. We merely present information and any user who chooses to follow our information assumes all risk, yada yada yada.)
@amslimfordy very smart thinking on the rename of files. wish I had thought this myself on the 17th. nevertheless, good info and nicely done on your part.
Big Notice for PC Users
Anyone who had issues with the “OpenGL” minimum requirement in v3.3.0 should update to v3.3.3. According to an amazing person at Rovio who reached out to me of her own accord, this boost in requirement was actually a bug and has been repaired.
The only names I could find in a quick search were @kimmy1971 and @Twylatime. If anyone remembers others, feel free to CC them here.
