I was having the same issue with the Arena and sent a support request to Rovio yesterday. I was able to get in last night.

This morning in my email I got this response from Rovio: ” There was a small issue with our servers that govern the Arena in Angry Birds 2 that caused players to be unable to play. This issue should now be resolved. “

I’m “on the fence” in my opinion of AB2 so far after a month of playing. I probably would have liked it better if I had not enjoyed the pleasire of playing AB Original first. That said, I have scanned the entire forum and am astonished that no one has commented on several points:

– How much are unused birds worth? It’s difficult to decipher how many points are earned when the screen begins to shift ro the next room and destruction is still ongoing but it does seem to vary and is certainly not the 10k from Other AB games.
– How is one’s standing in the Arena Toyrnament determined? Several times I have been #7 or #8 but was awarded 1st place at the end of the tournament. Once I was #1 in my group as the tournament ended and I watched the screen appear announcing that I finished #8. Has anyone else noticed the inconsitancy?
– Does it matter where one aims a spell? I thought that the changing inset pictures of the spell icon and the pigs in the upper left of the screen gave some clue as to the impact point of the spell but I’ve seen no effect. I may fling my next spell backward just to check.
– Does score matter? Why doesn’t the screen which sows the status of your flock (# levels, # pigs popped, and # stars) not also include a total accumulated score?
– Has anyone noticed other discrepancies? I finished one level with 450k and 12 extra birds remaining and earned one star! When I looked back to cite the level for this note, I could only find two ans three star levels.

– Unused cards (birds) are worthless, bonuses are awarded for strike and birdie (one or two fling clears respectively) – Any other points awarded during and after screen change are for damage that is still occurring on the prior screen (items still falling, etc.)
– Tournament scoring is supposed to be based on the best single run score achieved, but has been glitched to be a cumulative score throughout the day (not sure if fixed in new update)
– Spells do not need to be aimed, flinging backward does not work for any spell or bird, it will simply remain in the sling.
– Score only matters if you are competitive (like me) The only place I have ever seen a cumulative score is here on the nest leaderboards.
– Stars are awarded solely on the basis of points – sometimes it can be better to use more birds to do more damage if there is more available than the potential strike/birdie bonus

1- Unused birds are worth zero points. You are awarded bonus points when you clear a stage with 1 or 2 birds (Birdie and Strike)

2- The Arena is bugged at the moment. The top score should win the tournament.

3- You can fling the spell anywhere. No aiming necessary.

4- I would love to see Rovio implement that, total episode and game scores. That’s what kept ABO competitive.

I like to pile on after the fact (and echo @burbman and @sal9):

1: A “Strike” is worth 25k; a “Birdie” is worth 10k. If you need to fling a third time or higher, there is no bonus.

2: Burbman has it dead-on. I’ll be interested to see if today’s update fixes the “cumulative” issue.

3: (Nothing to add, except that if you ever want to “unpull” the slingshot, the best trick is to try to fire the bird backwards. It’s not allowed, so it unpulls the slingshot.)

4: ABN!

5: Stars are awarded on a score-only basis, in theory just like in all other AB games. The difference is that there’s no “10k-bonus per leftover bird”.

@sal9, @burbman, @amslimfordy Many thanks for the details and the quick turn around response. Now many things make more sense. My comment about scoring 450k with 12 unused birds only to get one star is partially explained — the left-over birds did not contribute to the outcome. Still, I am certain that I only got one star but my map shows that all levels completed so far are 2 or 3 stars. Maybe I hallucinated. I’ll just have to unlearn some of my ABO instincts or at least turn them off when I play AB2. Thanks again.

@amslimfordy — I haven’t updated yet but will be on the lookout when I do. Also, thanks for the hint about aiming backward to “unpull” the sling. I’ve lost quite a few birds when I decided to switch to different one after already pulling back.

arrrrrgh. Before the new update I could get my bird back + 1 extra spell card completing the first stage of most levels. Now they’ve tweaked it so you only get 1 bonus card. And my birds are already Diamond which is supposed to fill up the meter quicker.

Is anyone having odd results at the end of the daily tournament? Yesterday I was in 5th place out of the 15 people they show, and at the end of the day it awarded me 1st. Just about every day, the final award is different than the place I was in just before it ended.

I understand that people could get last-minute higher scores than me, causing me to move down in the rankings. But I don’t know how I could be moving up last minute. Am I missing something?

@cfunkho @burbman — At ~4:30 pm today PDT, I was #8 in the arena. The arena closes at 5 pm PDT, and I came in 3rd, so I would say that the arena is still giving awards based on cumulative score.

Thanks for the info about cumulative scores. I have the most recent update and today it was showing me as the top scorer but when the day rolled over, it told me I came in 11th. *mad*
