Best way to acquire new items

Hello together,

What do you guys think the best way to get new and good gears if you don’t want to spend too much real money for gems?
So for what I should save my precious gems?

– The slot machine?
– ship energy in monster events to get high ranking?
– Arena Tickets to get high ranking?
– Special Slot machine during events?

@veggie, unfortunately, Rovio has so severely skewed the Slot to award A items that I think it’s hard to get what you want without spending some money. For example, the only SS Panel appearance I’ve seen as a prize was the Christmas Glasses for Matilda; the only way to get SS panel appearance for our other birds is the Slot.

Definitely stay away from the Exclusive Slot during Arenas. While there’s an occasional useful SS with 5 Gems, I think most here & on FB agree it’s nothing but a rip-off money grab by Rovio. Right now 20 of the 36 are SS, but with the rigged way Rovio awards Slot items, SS items aren’t awarded proportionately to their appearance. A items are awarded in disproportionately high amounts to their appearance.

Personally, I don’t think using 1 Gem for 1 Arena Ticket is the best use, especially with Chuck or Matilda Arenas where their Sabatoge often stops our progress producing a loss.

When I don’t have any Ship Energies I’ve used Gems for the 3 Ship Energy, but only when the really special Monster Pigs appear at the end as they’re so valuable. During the last Event, I really wanted the Chuck Ship with attack twice Mast & the fact it was Top 2000 & not Top 500 made it very doable, so spending a few Gems to beat those Minion Pigs appearing at the end ensured I made it without having to play 24/7.

In the actual Arena I find the matching somehow questionable.
My Chuck (lvl 28) often gets other Chucks with for example Lvl 37 as opponent. So it’s quite impossible to do winning streaks above 3.

So after all I should spend the 20gems in the slot machine as at least a S-item is guaranteed?

@justpast40 Ya, I was surprised that they lowered it to top-2000 instead of the usual top-500. I was able to rank 1890, just barely made it.

@veggie Ya, the slot is all screwey now. I guess just keep fighting and get GG points, and hopefully you can get S-rated panels appearance items. These items are only bronze effects, but, it’s better than nothing. So far, I have 4-star laser glasses for Red, 4-star radio for Bomb, and 4-star teapot for Matilda. Again, they are not the best, but, they help a little bit, and psychologically, it helps a lot.

@tomt, have you tried the Mod Glasses (2500 point prize in Penguin Pig)? The Bomb appearance for this S item is 8% vs the 5% Radio Cassette. Enhanced to 3* it’s 108 Defense.

I don’t know your Chuck equipment, but given the fact the sabatoge often literally prevents opponents’ progress, I think a 3-streak is ok. I would expect even the best players in the world to have much lower Chuck or Matilda streaks than Blues or Stella.

@justpast40 Ya, I have those items, it’s just that for the sake of this topic, I suggest people depend on luck at GG free slot if they don’t want to pay real money. Once in a while they do give out decent items at monster events.

I try to avoid talking about monster event items because when Rovio realizes most people just wait for monster events to get good items, Rovio will probably pull all the good items.

@veggie For me, I saved all the gems I’ve earned from doing the daily challenges (which gives 5 gems) including the monster event gem prizes. Once I’ve enough gems or more than 20 gems, I used it for the 20 gem slot.

It’s best not to spend your gems on the event’s special slot machine because you wasted 5 gems to get an item which most of the time gives out either an A or S rank items (depends on your luck). I prefer you get good items from the 20 gem slot since I got most of my currently best items from this slot. It sounds expensive but it’s worth it because you might get some good SS or S items from there out of 4 items. Besides, you get the golden/normal binoculars or ship energy in return as well.

If you’re a competitive type, you can save your gems for getting high ranks in monster or arena events. I don’t know about you but for me, I seldom spend gems on monster events because I’ve like the whole weekend to catch up with my rank to get the SS item. Don’t really care much about the ship parts :P

Still, it’s up to you on how you want to spend your gems for. We can only give suggestions to narrow down your choices.

You are right about the panel appearance SS Items, they truly make things a lot easier.
I was lucky to catch the SS mustache for Chuck yesterday in the Slot Maschine and it works pretty awesome!

Between a little off topic question: What means the crowns in front of some players rankings ?

@veggie – the crown is for players ranked in the top 5000 by fighting points. Not sure what the breakdown is but there are bronze, silver, gold and maybe another.

Back on topic, I had a moment of weakness and tried the Exclusive Slot for Stella yesterday. I am level 34 with crap items relative to the matchups I get: Pinwheel (S), Popcorn (S), Sakura Umbrella (SS). Almost anything would have helped me, emphasis on “almost”. I now have the Queen Glasses (A) – 4th worst item in the slot. Serves me right.

I would add PIG LAB to your list. There are valuable items in the Gold Chests. Make sure you get those. I haven’t gotten the Stella Macaroon Tower (Lvl 19) which would help me in this Arena.

@veggie Rovio have nerfed the slots, in the result that they give 80% chance ONLY for A items, making players feel like they just threw gems on the ocean. A 20 gem slot will give you the right item you need ;).

@napmaster You never spent 20 gems on 4slot draw? You must have spent 20 gems for some lucky SS. And the Macaroon Tower won’t help you too much, just gives you more health. The items you already haven atleast have some skills you need, don’t scrap them.
I got Vintage Hat by 4slot draw, but even the normal Artemis Hat has better defense, that’s why I want the RB Tiara for Stella ;).

@napmaster @donewithpigs Indeed, I switched from the Maracoon Tower to the Perfume Bottle in the Arena (and in general, actually). Now I actually try to hold back at times because I feel like my Stella is too overpowered!

Once all my birds had SS items in their inventory, I stopped doing the single slot and now only use the 4-slot draw.
