HunnyBunny@hunnybunny
Love Bang a Gong, hate Tiny Dancer
Desperate Dan@desperate-danSqueaked my way through @hunnybunny with a couple of 6s. I got PARER wrong but nothing since so streak is over 750. At least one person is over 1000 though. I don’t play hard mode*, which helps. However, even in easy mode up to half the players were bombing out on CORER.
*In hard mode, once you get a letter correct you must stick with it thus reducing your opportunity to eliminate other letters.
Desperate Dan@desperate-danDeep Purple released Fireball in 1971. Again, at the peak of their (considerable) powers. They were the first group that weaned me off chart pop, much to my parent’s dismay I would imagine.
Desperate Dan@desperate-danThis 1971 album is one of the biggest sellers of all time, and another artist peak.
Desperate Dan@desperate-dan4768 attempts on 14-4 and I have crawled up to 77th. How the hell did I ever manage 3rd place?
At 2 minutes a go (you have to wait for a minute to get the auto-collapse to begin) that’s getting on for a mere 160 hours of play. Almost a week, 24/7.
I may have to try a different version, I guess.
Desperate Dan@desperate-danHunky Dory 1971! It just doesn’t stop. Bowie’s best? 1972 has a lot of catching up to do. There’s more to come yet.
Desperate Dan@desperate-danLed Zep IV – by broad agreement their best album, again 1971.
What more proof do you need?
Desperate Dan@desperate-dan1971, Sticky Fingers, Rolling Stones. Again, right in the middle of their purple patch of albums. Bit of a dodgy song I’m afraid but great memories of college discos down in the beer cellar where the sweat used to drip off the low ceiling.
Our resident DJ always to finish with the Hawaii 5-0 theme music.
Desperate Dan@desperate-danMay have to do a little trolling. Say something outrageous about Trump.
Oh…that’s impossible.
Desperate Dan@desperate-danThe Doors as well – final track of final album before Jim Morrison’s demise.
I’ll do one more then let @hunnybunny put the case for 1972.
Or not, as the case may be.
Desperate Dan@desperate-danFinally, back to the group that made me buy my first ever single.
Also in 1971, The Yes Album, their best IMO. Lindisfarne Fog on the Tyne, a great listen throughout and Bryter Later by Nick Drake. Oh, and Ram by McCartney. Shifting back to 1969, 1970 and forward to 1972 it’s pretty good too but 1971 is crazily stellar. I do feel sorry for today’s kids that get excited over the low bar that is today’s music.
Anyway, that’s me done and I’ll just turn the light off as I’m leaving. Ta-ra.
Brian N@briannI don’t know I leave you alone for a couple of weeks and look what happens? You get stuck in the Jurassic age of rock.Everyone knows pop wasn’t invented until 1976.
Dan still looking for the miracle 0 birder (well done @sweetp for making the Desperate one play the game).Rukes is rules is what I always say.Trouble is he’s such a stubborn character(takes one to know one) and we all know he’ll find the right version and get the score etc.Trouble is we won’t hear the end of it till then.Sigh.
Lurkers still lurking.
Steely Dan better than The Fall @hunnybunny?Are you insane?Well I think we know the answer to that.
Anyway HB let me put the case for 1972.
Exile on Main Street is easily the best thing The Stones ever did.
Good as Hunky Dory is Ziggy Stardust is even better.
Throw in 2 Stevie Wonder albums Music of my Mind and Talking Book
The epynomous debut album of Roxy Music with Eno in his pomp
And the jewel in the crown Transformer by Lou Reed,an all time great.
We can argue about the trimmings but the the turkey has been carved.
Brian N@briannHunnyBunny@hunnybunnyAh, BrianN, I argued the case for 1972 a long time ago, and owned all those albums
Turkey and trimmings complete!
Desperate Dan@desperate-danClose but no cigar.
For 1972 you could have added Harvest by Neil Young. And the first Steely Dan album! Hey, I’m on board!
Desperate Dan@desperate-danContractual obligation post about Angry Birds.
After 9 continuous days of running, 14-4 in version 1.6.3 did not deliver. I got 0-birders but not the scores. Bit stumped as to what version I was using in 2022. There’s a lot to choose from. Maybe 3.4.0. Sigh…
(I’m going to start the ellipsis appreciation society…)
Brian N@briannGlad you’re on board @desperate-dan but we haven’t even mentioned 1977.
Brian N@briannNot his best album but a great introduction to 1977
Brian N@briannRattus Norvegicus anyone?
Brian N@briannTo be continued.
Desperate Dan@desperate-danI agree, 1977 right up there and I think 1978 just as good, as both capture punk and the emergence of post punk before it all starts to go a bit electronic. Real Life by Magazine (1978) is an awesome album and this is one of the best punk singles ever.
HunnyBunny@hunnybunnyTalking Heads
Bet you can’t beat this
Desperate Dan@desperate-danDesperate Dan@desperate-danProbably contravened the BP’s rules with that version of Peaches @brianN. I heard it once on prime time Radio 1 back in the day. The DJ kept it going to the end, probably the best policy in the circumstances.
Brian N@briannI’m sure you’ll all be gutted to know The Fall didn’t cut an album till 79 however The Jam knocked out a couple of debut stonkers in 77 and though there was a lot going on in This Is the Modern World I’m giving the nod to In the City on the basis of superior tune bangingness! Here’s the title track… much more to come re 77…
