    You’re probably right @hunnybunny and @desperate-dan I can’t beat that but you know me I’ll have a go. Here’s another Muppet killing a classic.

    I must admit I do like the word eponymous. The Clash.

    Heavily influenced by Bowie’s involvement Iggy Pop’s Lust for Life is a must. Title track.

    Speaking of the great man… Low and Heroes!!!

    I’ll let you guys decide.

    Warming to the theme.

    1977’s album Animals by Pink Floyd is my favourite of theirs. Now in case you think they should have been swept away by punk, just listen to the lyrics. Roger Waters was far more angry than the ravings of the punks and he had hardly started (a mere hors d’oeuvres to the Wall and The Final Cut).

    Did you say horses douvers? Bit harsh on The Floyd though as you know I think they would have been truly great had Syd Barrett not fried his brain and had stayed with the band.

    It turned out that John Lydon really did like Pink Floyd after all.

    1977 was of course the year of Rumours and the great Steely Dan album Aja. If we have nailed down 1971 and 1977 as truly great years of the 1970s (with nods to 1970, 1972 and 1978 as well), does anyone have a candidate for the best of the 1980s? Well aware we are into Fall territory here…

    I’ve had less than more times than 39…

    We need an Only Connect tiebreaker.

    Aagghh, I forgot New Boots and Panties was in 1977. A absolute classic, but with a dash of the parental advisory (I was 17 and living at home at the time). Gotta have this.

    After some clever diversionary tactics by @hunnybunny we find ourselves back where we should be in The 1977…

    Anyone remember this curio from 1977? From the Spot the Pigeon EP. Pretty naff but the video is a bit of a time capsule.

    Hey @ixan57, I was in the pub the other day when two barmaids starting arguing. It was a real busty din.

    Anyone seen me coat?

    Yes Dan I remember it well.

    I’ve just realised @brianN that there is footage of all the goals in the 1979 FA Cup Final at the end of the video, so it’s later than the EP. I really can’t imagine Tony Banks being a football fan – rather beneath him.

    Struggling to pick out one outstanding year in the 1980s. It’s not a terrible decade but when artists like Prince and Madonna are heralded as the peak, it’s a long way down on the 1970s. And the 1990s were generally much better, I think.

    My ranking would be

    1970s, 1960s, 1990s, 1980s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s.

    Some artists have meaningful contributions to all of these decades.

    A US perception might be quite different – always amazed at how many incredible British bands are virtually unknown over there. The reverse I think is rarely true.

    One of my poor customers has had her conservatory collapse since my last visit.I say poor they’re actually minted and given he used to own a double glazing business I reckon he got a good deal on a new oneAnyway she said: “Just do the rest of the house as normal”

    So I said:”Most of the work is in the conservatory I could do it half price,£6 ok?”

    She sad:”Thats not enough you still have X,Y,and Z to do.Hang on a minute…”

    She goes in and comes back with…£7…

    She must’ve felt like the Queen on Maundy Thursday.Me?I didn’t know whether to bow or curtsey…or curse.

    @desperate-dan

    I get charged £18 which is about £2 a window.  Do you want to pop down here and do mine?

    BTW, they come every 6 weeks. What’s your gap between visits?

    Desperate Dan
    @desperate-dan

    I’m getting a very bad feeling about the election. US democracy may be none of my business but climate change is everybody’s. This post is not about politics, it’s about humanity.
