i like the two Christmas seasonal ABs so far the best because of the daily level release. so much more fun seeing a new challenge every day vs having 15-20 level dumped on us all at once. just my 2cents. Merry day before Christmas Eve, all.

I don’t have any highscores on any levels of angry birds seasons. All of my highscores say 259230 on them because i lost my progress a long time ago, so i bought an app called 3 stars in angry birds seasons, and they take a high score that is triple star for all the levels and place it as a highscore. What should i do?

Kathy – As far as i know, those mobile carrier backup plans are only good for phone contact lists and emails. i use an app called Angry Birds Backup. The developer is Pierrick O’murphy. It will back up datafiles for all three AB versions. SD cards aren’t 100% safe, as they can be lost, damaged, even destroyed. A copy of your datafiles in another location on your device, combined with a secure off device method, like cloud storage, for example, is generally best.

The reason for such varied redundancy is to combat things like laziness, complacency, and a whole host of nornal human failings, yet still have access to all that we need, or have become accustomed to on our electronic devices.

Hey guys and gals,

Is there a list somewhere that indicates which of the Seasons Greedings levels *had* the santa hat glitch?

If so, it would help me avoid wasting my time to score higher on those levels. I use the leaderboards, “off high score by” and/or the “rank” filters to determine which levels to revisit. Love the new filter by “rank” feature, by the way…

but since the Santa hat glitch no longer exists, the filters are less useful for the AB: Seasons Season Greedings levels since some scores and ranks are the result of the prior glitch.

You don’t want levels that depend on luck. And you din’t want levels in which you have to hit a specific block.
May I ask you what else you guys want?

By the way, the very first level (level 1-1 in AB original) already depended on luck weather you get 2 or 3 stars. This was part of the game from the beginning on. So I wonder why you give up only 3 years later.

Rank: Master Slinger with 5360 points
By Inactive (@chaostsar)

That’s an easy one — I’m simply bored with the game now. I don’t mind having to hit a certain block or following a certain strategy, but what I do mind is having to replay a level — using the exact same shot and same trajectory — over and over and over and over again until the planets align and you end up with a competitive score. Perfect examples would be the two most recent dragon egg levels. I don’t find that particularly fun or challenging, and it is getting to the point where I would rather go do something else.

And again, let me emphasize that I still think all three AB games are excellent games, and I continue to recommend them. For me, though, the thrill and challenge and level of enjoyment is rapidly disappearing. This is not mean as an attack on Rovio, either — for less than $10, these games have given me a crazy amount of good playing time, and I am always amazed that they continue to update these three versions at no extra charge. Personally, I don’t think they should change a thing — the only issue I have is personal enjoyment, and when I stop enjoying a game and get burnt out, then I move on to other things.

By Chris

I still don’t understand you.
Of course the two new dragon eggs levels are not at all challenging. That’s what most of eggs levels are not.
But you cannot gain anything by having a highscore in these levels.
I played them ONCE and that’s it.
What sense does it make to play them again and again?

It’s also annoying to listen to the AB music for 16 hours. It’s also boring to watch the titel screen for 2 hours. And it’s also boring to play eggs levels again and again. But normally people don’t do things like this. It’s not what the game was made for.

Rank: Master Slinger with 5360 points

Hi Chris,
I’ll try to explain too as I am on exactly the same wavelength as Chaos Tsar.

“Trick or Treat” Level 3-10 (well most of Trick or Treat to be honest) is a good example of where you are simply NOT going to get a really good high score by simply pinging 1 bird into the stack and watching how everything shakes down. You have to work at the tactics and angles like crazy… Trick or Treat just does not cough up lottery scores with a simple one bird fling like Dragon Level 6 (and at least 5 of the first 6 Dragon levels I played)

You mentioned AB original Level 1-1. OK, this is about as simple as levels comes right? But the tactic for Dragon Level 6 is exactly the same!! The only difference being whereas that single shot in AB 1-1 gives a score of 30K plus or minus a couple of thousand, in Dragon Level 6 somebody pinging their first ever Angry Bird could get 190,000 points!! (not a pop at the high scorer here at all, who may be ace, but a novice really could get that score in 3 minutes and an expert could not match it after hours (or days) of play. And it is the hours of playing the level like a sort of “ping 1 bird and watch” lottery that Chaos Tsar is probably referring to. There has always been an element of luck but it was never really 100% luck before.

Angry Birds is still the best game on the planet but what Chaos Tsar said about the same shot, same trajectory over and over until the end of time and just hoping is our best attempt at explaining our disappointment in Dragon. I am still keep my fingers crossed for the final Rio board though :-)

Rank: Master Slinger with 5360 points
By Inactive (@chaostsar)

I’ve been having the same thoughts, Habenero, although I haven’t quite decided to pull the trigger yet. For me, there are just too many level now that are dependent on luck only, and that just bores me to tears.

I still think AB is a great game, but I guess I’m just starting to get a bit bored with it all. I guess we’ll see how much longer I last.

I’ll have to agree with Habanero here. I remember when I first came to this site and seeing people like yourself and ChaosTsar posting big scores on levels and thinking “Wow, that’s some crazy skills”. It’s certainly went in a different direction since then, this episode especially but tbh the Christmas episode wasn’t a lot better really. There is the odd level where skill>a lot of tries but they seem to be getting fewer and further between. I really enjoy seasons and have recently moved from “complete” to “compete” but am thinking I may revisit some of the older episodes so I can really get a feel for what it used to be like.

I can see how 1-6 was the final straw. I am actually the high-scorer on that level but must admit that I did spend a good couple of days doing nothing but playing the level. The really bad thing is that before I hit 192K the highest score I could manage was 181K… over 10K difference simply because the planets aligned. I think perseverance should pay off on a level but I don’t think that it should be the deciding factor, as it seems to have become more recently.

and I know this will probably be disputed, but it seems like the platform you’re playing on has some effect on score. I have no real proof, but it seems like it. I have checked the platform of some of the consistently high scorers and it seems like most play on the iOS platform. I play on the andriod platform and there are times it seems like I don’t get the fallout/collateral damage that some others are getting. In my case, i just keep trying. I know I am not necessarily good enough to get #1 high scores, but that does not deter me from trying.
And yes, there are times where it looks like a great score only to come here and see that I am 15k (or more) off the high and not even in the top 200 for a level. Do I complain about it, NOPE, I just go back to flinging birds.

Rank: Sling God with 45310 points

I managed 130K on 1-15 YotD WITHOUT hitting any of the 3 fish over the top right. Had I killed them all I would have been looking at a score close to 140K. There is always room for improvement and the luck factor comes into it when you get firecrackers shooting everywhere.

Your right, it was completely obvious which level you were talking about! I mean come on now, how could we not know which episode/level you are talking about when you don’t post even a single score. It should stick out like a sore thumb!

Regarding getting the high score. It’s not easy, sometimes you need an incredible amount of luck to go along with the P-E-R-F-E-C-T shot(s). Also, sometimes a different strategy yields higher points. and sometimes tossing an extra bird will do more damage than holding on to it. There are many factors to take into consideration when trying to get a high score. Along with (in my case) many hours of flinging birds!(and no, i currently do not have any high scores, but I do have a number of top 10s) And as a few long time ABN players have noted in other posts, it seems like YotD requires more luck than skill.

and sometimes, it’s completely random. Some get the high scores in just a few attempts, and others can play for hours, days, months but the real high score just does not want to come. (happens by me in the Easter Egg levels 2 and 3)
But is this not the fun of this game, and the reason we always get back to play it? It gets never boring, there is always a level (or more) where you still can improve.

Okay, maybe my post was just a tiny bit impulsive :p Sorry.
I have also noticed that similar scenario’s as seen in certain video’s yield 10-15K less for me, but that could be because blocks give more points when they break at a higher speed.
I currently play on the Ipod version and have never heard of any differences between platforms, apart from the 2010/2011 christmas episode.

Then I found this site, entered all my scores and found out that a majority of my scores were well below average. It was with the help of this site that I was able to improve my scores. @mvnla2, i guess this is off topic from the original post, but here goes.
As I stated before, I’m sure there is some dispute as to which platform one plays on, but there does seem to be a difference (at least to me). I primarily play on the andriod (my phone). But I also play on google chrome. There are some levels where I get much higher scores on the chrome.
For example: Seasons Greedings 1-4: Driod=94,920, chrome=97170. It just seems like in the chrome version, the blue bird just cuts through glass (ice, whatever it is)and snow, and the yellow bird cuts through wood much easier. I have seen this on several levels on the chrome version. (and i am not talking about the few levels on chrome that have an extra bird in seasons greedings)

I agree Slim. Most levels do play the same. It just seems like on chrome, the blue bird and yellow bird yield greater damage, and the white bird’s egg is at times almost useless. I have posted scores from chrome but not for Seasons Greedings, under a different user. (Sparty83_2)
Have not put in as much time on chrome as i do with my primary user. was more curious about the chrome version more so than anything.

@angrychicken – I know what you’re talking about, that same thing boggled me for quite a long time: how could these people get these scores? But what I have found is that scores can rack up in subtle ways.

For example, if you hit a stone with a black bird, you get more points than if you hit it with a yellow bird. Also, I’ve noticed that destroying blocks a little at a time yields more points total than just destroying them all at once.

It’s tough to do these things deliberately, but that might give you at least an explanation for how scores get so high.

This is the Seasons leaderboard. Select the Episode you wish to enter scores for, then enter your scores in the “Your Score” column.

Kinda new here. Whats with the flags in the secondtoright column in the leaderboards?

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

Flags are for alerting admins of questionable scores. Flagging a level doesn’t immediately remove it, but it will mark it for review. However, one should exercise caution when doing this. Some scores have been here for a long time; some have been confirmed; some are by trusted users. The point being: If the Top Score on a level is several thousand points higher than your score, that does NOT mean it is false. You should check out the individual level leaderboard (by clicking on the level number in the first column) at least to compare it to other scores.

Even still, flagging is very “quiet”. We don’t have time to check every individual flag. But if something is clearly out of line, writing a comment will alert us faster.

They are a method of annotating scores that are potenially fraudulent, so that they might be investigated, and if necessary, removed by BirdLeader or Slim. There are many players here that keep a sharp eye on the leaderboards, in order to keep cheaters off the boards, so that they keep their value as a genuine competitive benchmark.

If you play a level often enough, combined with comments about scores users are reporting, you’ll develop the ability to ferret out the dishonest, as you’ll have a fair knowledge of achievable scores on a given level.

By foley200

Hey, just had an idea for the leaderboards.

What about columns on the personal leaderboards where players could tick off levels they were finished with.
Alternatively (or in addition), you could have a column that you could mark with an x to indicate that a level needs more work.

I returned to Mooncake today and realised that there were a few levels I meant to go back over but completely forgot.
These columns would be really useful for players to quickly see which levels they’re done with and which levels deserve a few more flings.

Don’t know if this is possible or not but sure if you don’t ask…

I’m not sure if I understand. This doesn’t seem like much of a functionality. GE amount of horizontal space is quite limited, so I don’t think using the room for a checkbox is wise.

By foley200 (@foley200)

I suppose it’s functionality would depend on the player.
I personally, would find it very useful as a reference guide to see where I need to improve, whereas some players may not use it at all.
I understand that space is an issue and I suppose the ‘rank’ column serves the same purpose.
Keep up the good work!

@foley, I understand what you mean. There are times when I play a level and I get a score above average but I know I can get a better score. But after playing it for a while, I move on to the next level, hoping I will remember that I could do better on that previous one. I usually just sort the episode by Off High or Rank (assuming that I have bested the Average scores) and work on the worst ones.

@Slim, what do you mean “amount of horizontal space is quite limited”, I am running my monitor at 1900×1200 and there is PLENTY of horizontal space. (jk of course, I also come here on my phone and I am sure others do to and yes, space is limited that way.)

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

Yes, that’s the idea. Particularly on mobile devices, the amount of horizontal space is very limited. We also don’t want to go beyond the width of a normal computer screen. So we need to cap the number of columns in the leaderboard at some sort of level. I think where it is now leaves space for maybe another column, but we would want it to be something significant (perhaps a “verified” section for the top score? I can dream…)

Rank: Sling God with 45310 points
By Kathy (@kathy)

I just go by my leaderboard off average and off high scores…but then again I can always use improvement…I would like a checkmark for the levels I know I did the best I could do without throwing my phone across the room, so I can know I never, ever want to revisit that one…like a skulll and crossbones lol:)

I am a PC user. i can see my high scores files(user/appdata/roaming/rovio/angry birds seasons).is there way to decode that highscores.lua file .if i open it with notepad i cant understand anything it is full of $% signs.actually i am asking this bcoz it is quite boring to browse through every level, get the score, hit windows key, open browser and enter the score in leaderboard.I have a suggestion that is to make people upload there highscores.lua file and ABN site decodes it and we have all the scores of all the episodes in a matter of minutes.

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

1) we do not have the ability to decrypt.
2) highscores files, while reliable, are not perfect. Nor do we have the ability to associate a file, decrypt it, and add it to a user.

Rank: Master Slinger with 7205 points
By TruckDriver (@truckdriver)

The .lua files are encrypted, of course, and the encryption/decryption algorithms are encoded into the app. There are good reasons to doing it that way, even though such data can be imported in or out as clear text just as easily. Most involve data handling/parsing, peed of processing time and memory usage, both for the data, as much as for the app itself. You could, I suppose, ask Rovio for a decryption key that would function outside the app as a standalone, but I don’t think that they would be very keen to release proprietary code sequences. Rovio, and the ABN admins, could, if they wished, come to such an arrangement and build the necessary processing function, but as things now stand, I don’t see that either group sees a compelling need to do so.

All that having been said, it takes only a few minutes to input all your level scores, then just a few seconds to update a particular score when you get a new high score on any given level. Further, what would ABN do with all those, to them, unneeded data files once the data had been parsed to specific leaderboards?

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

Well said. At the same time, while we have a healthy relationship with Rovio, I highly doubt they would ever release the decryption key to ANYONE. Let alone for our leaderboards.

Even still, there are “double-bird” errors in Rio that arise occasionally.

Rank: Master Slinger with 7205 points
By TruckDriver (@truckdriver)

Thanks, Slim. I figured that Abhijit deserved an answer detailed enough to address his question without getting overly technical.

What’s a “double-bird” error? I don’t seem to have noticed such in Rio, or any of the other two, for that matter.

Rank: Gold Flinger with 8570 points

Sometimes, the extra unused birds are counted twice. For example, 1 bird was not used and 20k was given instead. Only in Rio.
