We’re excited to announce the biggest Angry Birds Space update to date is now available for iOS, PC, Mac, and Android via Google Play (Android Market) and Amazon (read the note about this below) with other platforms coming online soon.
Amazon Users: Many users are reporting that this update deletes their existing progress. Proceed with caution! and possibly turn off automatic updates for right now. Before updating be sure to backup your progress. For help with that you can check out our Ultimate Angry Birds backup tutorial (Android can be a bit trickier to backup, but it is doable).
Further Update: As of 9 August, it appears that Rovio and Amazon have solved this issue. We still encourage you to backup your data, just to be safe, but all seems to be well again.
This (v1.2.2) update includes a bunch of goodies, which we’ve broken down below:
- 20, yep 20!, brand new levels in Utopia!
- Ten bonus “Space Egg” levels unlocked for each 10-levels you 3-star (basically, one per page of levels)! That is, if you 3-star levels 1-1 through 1-10 of Pig Bang, you unlock Bonus Egg S-1. So to date, there are 3 bonus levels in Pig Bang, 3 in Cold Cuts, 1 in Fry Me to the Moon, and 3 in Utopia. Sorry, none in Danger Zone, which is sort of expected since it is not universally available.
- Orange Bird! He has a cool new outfit, but his behavior is pretty much identical to the other apps. Sorry, no backstory into how he made it into Space, but we are glad he’s here! It’s also neat to see how he flails about after deflating. Space isn’t going to be kind to the newest member of the flock.
- Antenna Egg! The shoot-able “Antenna Egg” vaporizes and explodes surrounding items and is available in the bonus “Space Egg” levels. From what we can tell it seems to be quite powerful., so proceed with caution.
- 2 new Golden Eggsteroids! Be sure to check out our complete Eggsteroids guide, which will be updated soon.
- 3 new achievements in Game Center, so be sure to check out our Angry Birds Space achievements page.
- Update: The Score Addict achievement thresholds for Pig Bang and Cold Cuts have been raised to reflect the three “bonus” levels added to these episodes. We have updated the achievements page and leaderboards to reflect this change. Note that if you had already earned the achievement, it will not be taken away from you.
- Boss fight! We assume that this takes place in the last level of Utopia and may be against the “Fat Pig”
The Space Eagle is Now Available for Amazon Users!
Android user are now able to purchase the Space Eagle and Danger Zone via the Amazon Appstore! Everything seems to be similar to the Google Play release of these features in v1.2.1, so definitely check out that post for details. Between that release post and our fantastic Space Eagle guide, we should be able to answer every question you have about these features.

Just finished 3-starring all the new Utopia, Space Egg bonus levels, and new Eggsteroids. Still a long ways from score addict though. This episode is harder than Danger Zone. Still need smash maniac too.

i find it hard to 3 star it, especially the bonus levels
I can’t wait for Amazon to release this for my kindle! I am keeping it charged and checking often:). These levels look fantastic ; so excited to play them.
It’s available for Kindle now but I wouldn’t recommend downloading it yet. It keeps telling me it has to delete the current version on my Kindle and reinstall it. :/
Sarah, I still don’t see the update on my kindle. As for the uninstall and reinstall, that is required for many apps. I have never had a problem doing that, but maybe you could back up your app first.
I just installed the update and lost all of my previous game data. =/

At least, if I do I don’t know anything about it. I’m on a Droid X and I’ve never bothered to backup, but I do have Backup Assistant so maybe it’s saved with that?
I’m not as bothered by this happening to Space as much as I would Original or Seasons, since there aren’t that many levels to do over. I’ll definitely be more careful about updating first in the future!
And by “updating first” I mean “backing up first”, obviously. =)
Help! Space update only installed the first level – do I have to 3-star level 1 to get the rest to open? Droid 3.
Levels unlock as you pass their predecessors.
I’m sorry but I don’t understand how to fix this. I 2-starred level 1 but level 2 won’t open. I’ve never had this issue before! Been playing for years!
Sorry, which “Level 1”? Levels 4-1 thru 4-10 of Utopia were available in the previous version.
I’m stuck on the first level of Danger Zone. When I click on level 2 it takes me to an in-app purchase via Google Play. But then it crashes every time – aargh!!
Oh, ok. So yes, Danger Zone would need to be purchased via Google Play. Try restarting your device and, before going into Angry Birds Space, open the Google Play app and log in. I’m not too familiar with Androids, but hopefully this helps.

Well, just updated on my kindle and all progress is gone. Cancelling download on phone: Going to back up my scoresbefore I install this update. I am so very glad that all of my DZ scores on safe on my phone!
The good news? Amazon now has Space Eagle :). What a nice treat for a Monday!
What about Danger Zone? Does Amazon now have that also?
sorry to hear your woes, @wanda! I hate that sort of thing. Fortunately, it’s not happened to me during flinging so far, but I always back up just to be sure. Hope you can revert!

Does anyone know how to backup a Kindle? Mine is set to automatically load updates, all may be lost already :(
@burbman @wanda Have you guys backed up and is all okay? I’d love to hear more about how the Space Eagle in-app purchase works.
I am out here on the left coast with you, @birdleader, so I have my fingers crossed that I will be able to back up when I get home from work before the update hits me. With auto-update, it may already be too late. Fortunately most of my high scores are on my iPhone, but I would hate to lose the progress I do have on the Kindle. I am not even sure that the backup process will work on the Kindle, so I will report on that as well.

I could not find any specific Angry Birds files on the Kindle, so I just copied the entire contents of the drive to my computer as a backup. Hopefully if I need to, I can find what I need. So far autoupdate has not updated my Space app. This thing tends to update way after the fact, even if I go looking for updates.
@birdleader, I have not checked my back up on my phone yet. I have not purchased any Space Eagles. I have 23 so far- after 3 starring first 10 levels of Pig Bang. I will let you know as soon as I check my phone.
Also, Danger Zone is on Amazon Kindle Fire. I have a Galaxy phone, so DZ was on my phone from Day 1.
@burbman, I think you might be okay. I had to download the update and then un install and re install. As long as you don’t install the update, you might be ok. I hope so :). I haven’t found a way to back up my kindle apps because I have not rooted it. I did root my phone, so hopefully my back ups will work.
@wanda You said the Space Eagle is now available? Can anyone say if Danger Zone is as well?
Also wanda (et. al.), can you confirm that pricing information for Space Eagles / Danger Zone are the same as iOS and Google Play?
Danger Zone was no charge on my Kindle Fire, @amslimfordy. I have not tried to purchase Space Eagle yet. I’ll let you know what happens.

Oops! @amslimfordy my mistake. DZ is 0.99 on my kindle. I was playing while watching the Olympics :). Sorry for the confusion. The Space Eagle procedure seems to be the same as Google Play. Click the amount you wish to purchase and you are directed to Amazon’s site. I didn’t complete purchase, but it seems like the google play description. Sorry about the goof! Olympic fever:)

So I just installed the update through the amazon marketplace and it uninstalls the old version without saving progess. Everything is lost.

Yep, that it does. My Galaxy S isn’t rooted but by using ConnectBot to backup and replace files I kept my scores when I somehow managed to click the reset option. That wasn’t very bright, but I didn’t lose anything =D

I got Smash Maniac today.
They changed something on Space Eagle this update. If all of the pigs are gone, and there’s still a pile of debris, it doesn’t let you finish the level! It just goes straight to the percentage screen! I wasted a TON of Space Eagles on this.
That’s been the way it has always been. If you act quickly enough, it will permit you to fling more sardine cans. Nothing has changed.

i have all the feathers in utopia but it still says 29/30 feathers on the screen! do more ppl have that problem?
Look for a “smaller feather” somewhere in there. If you try and have 0% < Eagle Highscore < 100%, it will display a smaller feather than if you obtain 100% Total Destruction. (IMHO, the visual aspect is extremely confusing, so I understand your confusion fully.)

It’s not the feather, but rather a feather to indicate that you have tried it? Honestly, I’m not sure. I can’t really justify the notation.

Angry birds Sapce v1.2.2 out on mac!
Is anyone having problems with buying Danger Zone through Amazon on their phones? There was no problem on the Kindle Fire but on my phone I continue to get “Error processing payment”. Doesn’t seem to matter whether it is using 3g or wifi, I still get the same error. Posted here because DZ wasn’t available until this Utopia release at Amazon.
Sounds like maybe there is something wrong with your billing information..
Tried various payment methods with Amazon support. Not having any problems with anything else Amazon related and Kindle Fire would use the same information.
I guess that I know why the White Bird isn’t in Space yet… If you drop the egg outside of a gravity zone, it just lays still in the middle of space and it is practically useless. Also, the Boomerang Bird is completely useless INSIDE of a gravity zone, because it already comes back in the field… So I guess that is why both aren’t in space yet :)
It looks like it has simply reverted back to 1.2.1 in Amazon… Right now, I’m still running the screwy 1.2.2 (I was able to backup/restore my data). When I “upgrade” back down to 1.2.1 from Amazon all of the new stuff is gone (as would be expected of 1.2.1). However, the product page still talks about all of the great new features that aren’t even present in the version being offered. Ugh.
New update to Space was available on my Kindle this morning, so I went ahead and installed it. Lost all progress for the second time in as many weeks. Really getting upset with Amazon over this.
Now, it seems there’s a NEW version 1.2.2 in Amazon. This one includes the new Utopia and space egg levels, but does NOT include the Danger Zone levels or the mighty eagle (basically, it excludes things involving in-app purchases). It’s crazy to me that they’d re-use the same version number, but oh well.
I am disappointed, On one update on the Amazon app store I received update with Danger Zone & I got one free mighty eagle a day. The update wipe my game but I had it back up. Then a new update came threw did the same thing but this time I took away my Danger Zone and NO more free ME :(
