Yes @kelani that's why the 'good' passes are close to sunrise/sunset. Any orbiting satellite is very distinctive once you recognize what it is. ISS is the easiest to spot because it is so bright... And you can easily find out when you should be able to see it.
It's a very steady bright star that moves across the sky in an oddly smooth arc. Airplanes blink and shimmer and don't appear to move quite as steady. Stars don't move. Satellites fade in from the horizon, move very steady and brighten as they crest, then gradually fade out.
You may have lots of trees, but I bet you can see ISS if you look for a nice high pass and you are far enough away from light pollution. (I.e. City/town/interstate) -
@ABCrazy If I can remember to check on a clear night when it's above 60 degrees, I should be good. I don't know exactly what my location is on the Bortle scale, but when you look at the Earth lights from space photos, I'm in a big dark spot. If stuff is flying overhead, the trees help. I even have a piece of landscape fabric hung between two trees to block where a streetlight shines at eye level. :D
There's a well lit small town to my north, and our frequent haze causes a lot of airglow, or whatever you call it. I've only seen one satellite here, and that was in the daytime. -
@all Sorry I'm taking so long flingers. I'm taking breaks quite often to keep the thumb alive. Enjoy your visit at the top of Space. There's no danger of eviction notices going out any time soon. But as a wise man (@Burpie) once told me, "It's a marathon, not a sprint".
I still think PIGineering had a hand in the development of this episode. Weird contraptions. -
@Rat That's why I'm enjoying it now. This ain't no River. It ain't gonna last. :) Glad you were able to play a bit, and even get a few good scores. Do whatever you gotta do to keep yourself off the sidelines.
I dunno about Pigineering being involved, maybe Rovio was inspired by their stuff, but playing Bad Piggies definitely makes parts of this episode seem really familiar.
Air tanks and those.. antimatter canisters? Unnamed radioactive elements, everything being explosive. I love it. Too bad I have to go ipadless most of tomorrow again. -
You're right @rat9, I thought those contraptions looked like they were developed at Pigineering, too! Good to see you're taking your time and not over-exerting that thumb! In due time you'll be fully recovered, and scare everybody off as the new sheriff!
@fenikus, I'll be keeping you company, taking it nice and slow. I'm only now on #8, and hope to catch up with you soon.
@ABcrazy, I live in a rural area where we're not affected by light pollution and on the clearest nights are when the stars are at the brightest, and spotting Venus and Jupiter are fairly easy. You say the best time to see ISS is at sunset or sunrise? In which direction should I be looking - East to West, North to South, etc. and how quickly does it pass overhead? -
@RatPack I did a quick run through all the levels of Beak Impact. Not what I'm used to for a Space episode. Lots of simplistic one birders. Still, I see all sorts of approaches on most levels. Now the real fun begins. On the second pass we start looking for points. Don't ask if I've posted anything. I don't look at the walkthroughs until after the second pass. I don't like to get influenced by a strategy and miss a unique one I might find on my own. I'll post all applicable strats at that time.
Good luck to all.
(except @fenikus) -
Hello Miss @Sunshine, nice to see you here in the BP! This must be a nice change from B&R, taking care of all those puppy adoptions.
OB, please put whatever @Sunshine is having on my tab please. This is a real treat to see her here relaxing and flinging with us!
WTG @Rat9, you're off to a nice start with a few top scores already! I guess that thumb is doing much better, so keep it slow and steady.
Time for me to get some sleep, it's been a restless night. Happy flinging @all, and good luck!

Morning all :) Sounds like most of you are soaring through Space - @rat9 good to hear your thumb is co-operating. Haven't even downloaded it yet, I'll get to it eventually.
I'm still swimmimg in the River. More like dog-paddling actually the way it's going. But I have to thank all you guys for the wonderful tips you've posted along the way!
Today is the 70th anniversary of D-Day. I've been watching some coverage of ceremonies in Normandy. Very moving.
OB a large black coffee & a pigmuffin please to kick-start my day. Hope it's a good one for all of you! :) -
Hi @Sunshine! Actually, I'm a bit disappointed that there are so many random 1-bird levels. Or maybe it just seems that way.
@Rat9, How nice that you can join us. And straight back to no. 1 (after you plug in your Eggsteroid scores). You mean business!
My second pass generally consists of a haphazard hop-skip-jump to take care of levels where I'm way off the lead. I have plenty of those. Then I can focus on Part 1 or 2. It seems that @Kelani wants us to focus on Part 1 first :-) -
Morning @burpie.. or maybe good afternoon for you! :)
Thanks for the invite, I'm really tempted. I usually like to finish an episode before moving on, & you're right, I'm very methodical as I play. Sometimes too much. But the chatter about Beak Impact just might pull me into orbit.
Would be one heck of a challenge trying to chase all you Space experts down :D -
Thanks @mvnla2 -- I did finish BI part 1 and saw there are few 2-birder levels. I hope part 2 has more of those (or dare I hope some 3 or 4 birders as well?).
BTW, do you (or anyone else) know why "embed image" HTML doesn't work in walkthrough comments? I wanted to try it as a novelty, but it just left everything blank. I asked Slim in subsequent comment to fix it. -
@burpie Not really 'focusing' on Pt 1. That's just as far as I got in my half-day. Today's Pt 2. as soon as cousin brings ipad back.
edit: sorry, I misread your comment. No, I'd be perfectly happy if everyone left Pt 1 alone from now on. Go get that punk in Pt 2. :)
@Rat There are simplistic 1-birders, (I counted 12 in Pt 1) but unlike BR, they've got plenty of multiple strategies.
@fenikus see @JLZ 's above embedded pictures for why no embedding allowed in walkthroughs :P
@JLZ Sorry to make an example out of you, They all do look lovely, even the sideways one, which actually gave my neck a wonderful stretch. Thanks for that :)

@Kelani, @all, my LB total score doesn't match my device score either. I just checked all the levels and I see no typos -- everything looks entered correctly. My ABN LB total score is only 580 pts higher than it should be though -- I'm guessing it's because I had to delete and re-enter only 4 of my scores and Kelani, I think you had to re-enter many more?
-
@Kelani, @all, I just copied the BI pt.1 leaderboard into an Excel spreadsheet. When I sum up the scores, they match my device, which is expected of course since I already checked for typos. I'm mentioning this as an alternative to painstakingly checking your device level scores against the LB one by one.
Kelani, make a Google Drive spreadsheet with some cool macros for people to use, will ya? I know you like that kind of challenge. -
Sorry @kelani I did the best I could with woeful resources :(
I'll delete or change photos when I can get some proper connection.
Heading back into the world that time's forgot.
XXX
P.S
I can't reach everyone so peeps that can get this @sunshine @kathy @mumsie? I'm re routing hubby on the way home tomorrow to go to our fave girls special place;D -
I'm glad you found the glitch on BI #1 leaderboard @Kelani. I compared our scores and everything looked good except your total. Very confusing. Just having the correct scores displayed is not a good enough check. It's adding scores from before "in addition" to your current displayed scores. I wonder if this has affected any of the other flingers at the top?
-
@Rat I assume it's anyone who removed and re-added scores to fix that total count, but after the reset, I suppose anyone could be affected. IIRC there were only like 26 players then?
AB just keeps throwing me all these score-boosting opportunities. I guess it's a good thing I want to beat y'all fair and square, or not at all. :P -
Well now my score's lower than my device. wth
@Rat @DEDENAMIK still has the wrong count. Shows 2 scores entered to me. If his total is screwed up, then it's probably all of us. -
@TroublemakerKelani said her pics were great. Twice! :P I'd give my flip-flopping BI score to be where she is about now.
-
@Rat, I was seriously thinking of jumping the Space ship after seeing @Kelani's total score. I thought I did fairly well on my first run-through, and he was 50K ahead of me with, as reported by him, only half-day effort. My total score is also tainted, but by mere 580 pts. I'm still 35K+ pts ahead of you. Just sayin', in case you haven't noticed ;)
