  • So @Kathy, do you have two cables, one for your house, the other for your car, or do you use just one?
  • Oh and what's your tablet brand? Samsung?
  • I have like 5 chargers. .I've ruled out the ones (boxes and cords) interchanged them and put aside the ones that absolutely don't work on the phone.. seeing @kelani logic the tablet need more juice. Then i purchased abrand new charger made for tablet. .it works on phone. .not tablet. the only thing working on tablet is the car one plugged into lighter. So my deduction is with c ed ntral ac running and window ac running and dryer running there is not enough juice left in this old house to charge tablet:/
  • Yes @fenikus Samsung galaxy s3
  • @Kathy, that sounds like a phone model number. Did you mean Samsung Note 3?
  • Nope Samsung galaxy tab 3 SM-T210R
  • Hm. But at one point you had a setup that was charging the tablet, right? I really don't think AC/dryer running can affect this.
  • That tablet needs 5v @ 2A to charge. @Kathy what do the numbers say on the bad charger?
  • @Kelani I've ruled out the bad chargers m the brand new one says. .it's to small I cant readit.. hold on. .
  • The box says 5v 2amp wall charger 7ft micro -usb cable
  • At work yesterday it charge just fine.inn my car it charges just fine . Last night before i went to bed it was charging .. when i woke up it said only 53% ..idk maybe i can return it ..
  • I'll wait till Monday and see what happens when i plug it inn at work. . If it doesn't workthen I'll turn it.
  • @Kathy, have you tried plugging the charger into a different wall outlet in your house? Sometimes they can be loose and lose contact.
  • *sends @Kathy a Multimeter for Christmas*
  • Yep tried that @fenikus the good thing is I have it plugged in And it's saying its charging but its holding steady at 56 % not going downbut not going up either. .idk just weird.
  • Other than that I'm out of ideas except that 2 amperes is significant current draw…I didn't realize it needed that much. So maybe, just maybe, it is your wiring like you said.
  • Thanks @kelani Christmas is a long way off and i have one at work:) save your money; ) thanks for the thought:)
  • Do your lights ever dim for a second or two?
  • Yep @fenikus that's what i think. .the wiring/electric in this old house is messed up for sure. . Not even 3prong plugs. .need adapters :/
  • And i looked online. Our town certainly curtails power usage during peak hours..
  • Ok I'm off for a couple minutes to pick up some hitchhiking insects. .
Thanks for your help and input @fenikus @kelani :)

  • Wow, I still can't get over the fact that little charger draws 2 amps…just looked at my iPad and it's the same (which means iPad and Samsung chargers are interchangeable theoretically).

I'm used to old school chargers that draw to the order of 5 mili amps…battery technology has come far since I played with electronics in earnest.
  • Hmm @fenikus I'm not sure about that iPad and Samsung android chargers interchangeable the port is smaller on apple devices.
  • Ok, maybe I exaggerate with 5mA…just looked at one of old Sony chargers, it's 4 volts and 310 mA. Still mili amps tho :-)
  • @Kathy, you could use Samsung cable to connect to iPad wall charger box and vice-versa. Wouldn't recommend it but in a pinch it should work (since they're both 5V 2A).
  • @Kathy supposedly they're not really interchangeable. Some work, some don't. Yay multiple standards.

@fenikus those chargers were for early phones, right? I have a box of them, mostly 3.7v 200/500mA.

I can't wait til the new batteries come out in a few years. They'll be fireproof, lighter and have something like 10x the energy density. plus, they can be fit to any shape, so the battery can fill all the oddly-shaped free space in a device.
  • I don't know howyou could @fenikus when the ports on the device are different Sizes but if you say so. . You know more about these thingsv than i do.
  • Well either way i don't think I'll be adding any support to Team BP inn HH for a bit until i get some juice:(
  • They're not all micro-USB?
  • @Kathy, both iPad and Samsung wall chargers take the regular USB cable…so what I meant is you plug in Samsung cable (USB end) into iPad charger and the other end into your phone/tablet. Voila, you have a solution in a pinch when you forgot your wall charger and you're sleeping over at friend's that has iPad.
  • BTW, why are you running two ACs? It's a very pleasant night here.
  • Ohh ya @fenikus I guess that would work in a pinch :)
  • @Kelani, that Sony charger was for…for…I think a phone/answering machine combo.
  • Uhmm cuz the mother is crazy @fenikus. .lol.. ive shut off the window ac but she still has central ac running:/ it is not necessary it is a nice night outside.
Nice enough there are no insects needing at ride inside lol.
I'm gonna fling out my battery and see what happens. .:/

  • Actually @Kelani, my bad -- that wasn't even a charger…it was just a DC power supply. But I looked at my old Motorola flip phone. 5 volts, 550 mA. That's half what iPhone needs.

Edit: nope, they're not all micro USB. Everybody has their own proprietary plug (well, by everybody I mean Samsung and Apple, my Motorola flip phone does have mini USB).
  • Hmmm is that the difference between car and house? Car is Dc? House isAc
  • @Kathy, wall charger converts AC to DC so both have the same output. But you're right, inputs are different though it shouldn't make a difference theoretically.
  • On level #15 @kelani your #5 I think with 222k do you think the top 3 with 227k are possible without pu?
  • Idk @fenikus really I give up. I'll just charge the tablet up in the car tomorrow and see what Happens on mMonday when i get to work. I will test the usb cords and the charger port on tablet. Worse case scenario I backup tablet on Monday after work then return it and hopefully get even exchange and new tablet:/
  • @Kathy Yeah, I think they're possible. Lucky as hell, and have to be nothing left, but possible.

@fenikus a charger is also a DC power supply :P

I love them. I've got a cute lab power supply I made out of two old 350W computer power supplies. It can do anything DC from 3.3v/60A up to 24v 40A. :D

edit: and you can fry an egg on the heatsink
  • I'm gonna go watch a flick…anybody seen Pacific Rim? I have that available for free.
  • Wow almost two pages of defunct electrical equipment discussions. We should all go edit our comments to cc Mrs. Bunny -- she loves this stuff and i'm sure wouldn't want to miss anything.
  • Yes @fenikus I am using an extension cord..I haven't read your link yet but wanted to answer you berire you lett.. enjoy the flick
    Night night
  • Ooooh, you should try nixing the extension then, the article says it can affect charging. Although not sure if you mean regular household extension cord -- this was referring to charger cable extension. Anyway, good night and good luck.
  • Night Ma
  • Can't beat Idris Elba. I've never seen Pacific Rim, but the reviews aren't bad, especially if you like robots, monsters and anime.
  • @all Hello, anyone there? I may be having a problem with my iPad here :(
